Position Description
National Grid Renewables seeks a highly motivated Market Operations Manager to join our team. The main responsibility of this role is to lead commercial operations activities across the portfolio, coordinate internally with commercial and operations teams, and externally with markets, customers, counterparties, and other third-party stake holders and service providers. The ideal candidate will have prior experience operating across energy markets in a power marketing environment, and be a reliable, dynamic, high-energy individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is self-directed, can multi-task effectively, and contribute across multiple organizational functions including trading, structuring, market operations, risk management, plant operations, market fundamentals, data analytics, compliance, contracting and transmission. Attention to detail, strong analytical, quantitative, energy transaction, technical understanding of market operations, effective verbal, written, and analysis communication skills, demonstrated problem-solving ability, strong business acumen, dependability, results-oriented, collaborative teammate, with a passion to learn, are pre-requisites to success in this role.
Main Responsibilities- Responsible for effective execution of all market operations activities across operating portfolio across markets (PJM, MISO, SPP and ERCOT), including third-party service provider management, transaction execution reporting, and ownership of the processes, procedures and training required to execute upon the market operations activities required to fulfill commercial goals, contracts, and market opportunities.
- Lead successful execution of energy, capacity, RECs, FTRs, and related market product transactions directly with ISOs, bilaterally, and via exchanges and compliance with relevant rules and governance.
- Provide leadership identifying more efficient ways to execute market operations activity across functions, increase profitability, effectively manage market and operational risk, and implement new products and services required by customers and market participants, or to meet new market participant requirements.
- Maintain current knowledge of market operations system rules, processes, and procedures.
- Liaise across internal functions associated with power market operations activities to develop business cases to pursue new commercial opportunities and seek management decisions and approvals.
- Expand personal skills and capabilities, understanding of market evolution, and ISO operating procedures.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in economics, engineering, finance preferred; advanced degree valued, not required.
- Working knowledge of commercial market operations in energy markets (PJM, MISO, ERCOT, SPP).
- Familiarity with procedures, policies, processes, and tools related to energy market operations and energy scheduling, trading, interfacing with markets, and contracts associated with physical and financial energy, capacity, RECs, FTRs, and other market products.
- Competent with software systems, implementing new systems and technologies, and data management.
- Organized self-starter who works independently AND collaborator who works effectively across functions.
- Strong communication skills – verbal, written and ability to present complex issues effectively.
- 7-10 years energy market operations, power marketing, trading professional experience.
