POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for organizing and overseeing school-aged students in a safe, enjoyable extended day program which meets the needs of the parents and enthuses students from kindergarten through 7th grade.
Legends EdVentures is currently seeking strong Lead and Assistant teachers to join our team. Our teachers are responsible for creating and maintaining a classroom for before and after care that adheres to the program's mission and vision. This includes, but is not limited to:
• Utilizing the many resources and curriculum to maximize the children's learning opportunities each day
• Ensuring that MSDE Office of Child Care regulations are complied with at all times
• Communicating daily with parents about their children and their children's academic progress
• Adhering to the daily schedule and following the prescribed curriculum
• Presenting a professional demeanor at all times
• Maintaining a clean and organized classroom that provides a healthy and safe environment for our children
• Before Care Hours: M-F, 7:00 am – 9:00 am After Care Hours: M-F, 3:15 pm – 6:15 pm
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
• Plan and conduct daily activities and study time for students with homework;
• Assist students with homework;
• Obtain, prepare and distribute snack at appropriate time, and clean area when finished;
• Keep an accurate sign in/out sheet in order to account for the students at all times;
• Aid the Director in ensuring the after-school program is in compliance with the Maryland Regulations, regarding childcare;
• Assist the Director in maintaining accurate paperwork for students and staff;
• Report discipline problems to the Director or Assistant Director and aid in resolution;
• Be knowledgeable and carry out duties as assigned in the event of an emergency;
• Communicate emergency evacuation / fire procedures to program participants;
• Maintain inventory of supplies, games, snacks, and beverages;
• Maintain credit hours of continuing education as required by the Maryland State Certification; and
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
• Eligible to qualify as a Lead Teacher through the State of Maryland OCC
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Prior experience working with school-aged children
• Able to communicate clearly and effectively with parents, children and peers.
• Strong written and spoken language skills. • Knowledge of typical development in School Age Children.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
Disqualifying Factors: The Program may not employ an individual who has received a conviction, probation before judgment disposition, a not criminally responsible disposition, or a pending charge for the commission or attempted commission of:
1. A crime involving:
a. A child;
b. Cruelty to animals;
c. Domestic Violence; or
d. A weapons or firearms violation of federal or state laws;
2. A sex offense;
3. A violent crime classified as a felony;
4. Abduction or kidnapping;
5. Abuse of a child or adult;
6. Confinement of an unattended child;
7. Manufacturing, distributing, or dispensing a controlled dangerous substance;
8. Perjury
9. Pornography
10. Possession with intent to manufacture, distribute, or dispense a controlled dangerous
11. substance; or
12. Reckless endangerment
Physical Demands and Work Environment
• Assist in the daily set up and clean-up of the program area, which includes but is not limited to, putting all program supplies and equipment away, making sure all food items are wrapped and put away and wiping down the tables and chairs.
• Periodically check refrigerator and remove old or unwanted items.
• Close and lock all closets at the end of each day.
• Change soiled clothes as needed.
• Ability to get on the floor to participate and supervise activities.
• Must be able to go outside, move about all areas of the campus and accompany participants on field trips.
• Lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
