Position Description: The Development Manager’s mission is to ensure that National Grid Renewables is originating and developing opportunities consistent with National Grid Renewables’ return expectations and corporate direction. This role will be responsible for leading a subset of a National Grid Renewables’ development portfolio in the Midwest. It is preferred the candidate can work in office and remote, under a hybrid role structure. Remote only candidates will still be considered.
Responsibilities:- Lead the company in targeting; and evaluating markets to identify greenfield developments, Mergers & Acquisitions; and partnership opportunities in the Eastern Region.
- Work with the commercial and finance teams to prepare financial models, evaluate new technologies, and prepare compelling solutions for customers.
- Represent National Grid Renewables with federal, state and local officials, regulators, utilities, transmission operators, and other stakeholders throughout the project development process. Effectively managing and maintaining key stakeholder relationships necessary for projects to thrive.
- Manage an internal team of senior developers, developers, associates, and/or site acquisition specialists.
- Manage external consultants, contractors, and/or land agents.
- Provide direction, input, and support on land negotiations for purchase options, lease options, easements, and extensions.
- Coordinate with the Interconnection department to site strategic Points of Interconnection and support the process to ultimately obtain Generator Interconnect Agreements.
- Work closely with the Permitting department to manage state, federal, and local permitting efforts, and approval processes for utility-scale electric generation projects.
- Interface with the engineering and construction teams to ensure that projects are deliverable, considerate of site characteristics, and on-budget.
- Update internal data for reports and project schedules.
- Obtain local tax abatements and other agreements as necessary to allow for construction of the projects.
- Manage annual development budget up to $3M for targeted project capital investment of over $500M.
- Lead development of 4-10 early/mid stage projects and up to 2 late-stage projects
- Travel approximately 35% of the time

What You Bring to the Role:- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 4-6 years of project development experience in renewable energy with demonstrated knowledge of energy markets is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver on large scale utility energy development projects is strongly preferred.
- Experience with contract management and negotiation is strongly preferred.
- Previous exposure to project financing is strongly preferred.
- Advanced understanding of real property interests is strongly preferred.
