Description
The Laboratory Technician will have strong initiative and be able to perform routine complex inspections. They will perform testing procedures in the field and laboratory for verification of compliance to plans and specifications. Duties will include but are not limited to, performing laboratory tests on soils, concrete, asphalt in compliance with various test methods, logging and reporting findings, maintaining documentation of data, and providing laboratory equipment maintenance and calibration when needed. The Laboratory Technician will communicate with project managers, engineering technicians, and others as applicable regarding the project requirements and test results. 
 
PRIMARY JOB TASKS: (Essential Duties)
 
  1. Perform Laboratory tests on soils, concrete, and asphalt to conform with Caltrans, ASTM, and AASHTO test methods. 
  2. Effectively communicate test results to office and field personnel as well as client contacts.
  3. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. 
  4. Provide detailed reports and data from test results. 
  5. Ensure all samples are accurately logged.
  6. Provide laboratory equipment maintenance and calibration.
  7. Document and implement test process.
  8. Sample inventory management.
  9. Documentation and data maintenance
  10. Perform field inspection, testing and sampling as needed. 
  11. Pick up soil and concrete samples from various project sites.

  4. Ability to work effectively with company personnel, as well as with clients and vendors in coordinating client requirements with company’s capability to satisfactorily complete jobs.
  5. Ability to work overtime, weekends, and varying hours when required. 
  6. Knowledge of building systems & construction techniques.
  7. Ability to work both inside and outside in varying weather conditions.

  • 10 years of construction materials and/or laboratory testing experience.
  • Basic computer skills 
  • Understanding of basic math and physics concepts including Algebra 
  • Ability to work variable hours 
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds

  • Valid driver's license

  • High school diploma or equivalent
