Job Summary

As the Ground Hand, you will support telecommunications construction crews by preparing job sites, transporting materials, assisting with equipment, and performing manual labor required for aerial and underground construction projects. You will work alongside Linemen and Foremen to help ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule. Your customers are Congruex construction teams and project stakeholders, and you will contribute to successful project execution through safety, teamwork, and reliable field support.

Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to:)

  • Assist Linemen with loading, unloading, organizing, and preparing tools, equipment, and construction materials at job sites.
  • Perform manual labor including digging, tamping, cutting brush, cleaning work areas, moving materials, and assisting with construction activities.
  • Support traffic control operations and maintain a safe work environment for crews and the public.
  • Safely operate company vehicles when authorized and assist with transporting equipment between the yard and job sites.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions, reporting concerns immediately.
  • Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs.

Required Qualifications

Education, Licensing, and Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License required; Class A CDL preferred.
  • OSHA 10 certification required.

Experience

  • Entry-level position; previous construction, utility, telecommunications, or outdoor labor experience preferred.
  • Experience working safely in physically demanding outdoor environments.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a construction crew.
  • Strong verbal communication skills using radios, verbal instructions, and hand signals.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, and move materials weighing 40–90 lbs. and work in physically demanding conditions.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to safety.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call schedules as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting telecommunications or utility construction crews.
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 90 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
  • Work performed outdoors in varying weather conditions around heavy equipment and active construction sites.
  • Ability to maintain visual and audible awareness of surrounding personnel, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background screening, drug screening, and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review, as applicable.
