JOB SUMMARY 

The Senior Environmental Specialist serves as a technical authority and trusted advisor, ensuring compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements, including air quality, SPCC, remediation, waste management, and Texas regulatory programs.

This is a non-managerial, individual contributor position that may include limited delegation and review of work performed by less experienced staff. 

This role is a seasoned professional who applies extensive knowledge of air quality and environmental regulations and strong project and process management skills to achieve operational goals. Works independently with minimal supervision. May manage projects and processes to improve efficiencies. May coach and review the work of junior employees. Problems faced are typically difficult and sometimes complex. Demonstrates integrity, accountability and transparency; upholds BKV standards, values and culture. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Typical job responsibilities of the Senior Environmental Specialist include: 

  • Provide input into EHSR targets and organizational goals. 

  • Partner with leadership to support the design and implementation of EHSR programs, procedures, and new compliance initiatives. 

  • Lead environmental compliance programs for midstream facilities and CCS operations. 

  • Identify, assess, and manage environmental risks; lead corrective actions and continuous compliance improvements. 

  • Manage complex environmental permitting, inspections, audits, and enforcement actions. 

  • Plan and deliver environmental programs and training to local operations personnel. 

  • Communicate environmental requirements and tasks clearly to operations teams. 

  • Prepare, analyze, and maintain environmental databases, inventories, and records. 

  • Collect and evaluate data and propose technical solutions that balance compliance, performance, sustainability, and operational flexibility. 

  • Perform environmental compliance activities, including soil and water sampling, waste profiling, and field assessments. 

  • Oversee soil and groundwater remediation projects. 

  • Interface with regulatory agencies during inspections, inquiries, and environmental events. 

  • Prepare and submit required regulatory notifications and reports related to air, water, and waste. 

  • Manage legacy environmental projects and liabilities. 

  • Coordinate spill response, cleanup activities, and spill reduction planning. 

  • Support waste management planning, disposal, and tracking. 

  • Manage SPCC and stormwater permitting and compliance. 

  • Perform wastewater monitoring and ensure compliance. 

  • Support environmental due diligence for acquisitions and divestitures. 

  • Assist with greenhouse gas, Quad O, and other air quality reporting and compliance obligations. 

  • Conduct air compliance applicability determinations for new and modified projects. 

  • Oversee consultants preparing and submitting air permits and authorizations. 

  • Participate in and comply with health and safety initiatives and required training. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Texas Railroad Commission (RRC), Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and applicable federal environmental programs related to midstream and carbon capture operations. 

  • Strong ability to interpret and apply environmental and regulatory requirements. 

  • Experience leading regulatory interactions and managing complex compliance matters. 

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and job-related applications. Uses understanding of digital concepts to create basic digital tools. 

  • Strong project management, coaching, and leadership skills. 

  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic fast-paced environment. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

  • Advanced interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills including proven ability to collaborate effectively with operations and environmental compliance teams. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Proficiency in technical writing, presentations, and training development.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, or other related discipline preferred. 

  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree 

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • This position is based out of the BKV Fort Worth, Texas office. Remote or hybrid work may be considered. 

  • Some travel up to (20%) may be required. 

Work Environment: 

  • Primarily office-based with standard business hours; extended hours may be required depending on business needs. 

  • May occasionally be exposed to distracting noise while sharing office space with others. 

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time. 

  • Ability to operate a computer, telephone, and other office equipment. 

  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds.
