POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Quality Control (QC) Manager has the responsibility of overseeing inspection and testing of manufactured components to ensure that the final product meets specific quality standards. The QC Manager is responsible for quality oversight of manufactured components from the first article stage to the final stage of production. The QC Manager ensures the centrifuge components are in compliance with critical design requirements prior to being released to the customer.
The QC Manager manages a team of quality control staff who are responsible for developing and executing quality control plans and inspection plans. The QC Manager coordinates with Manufacturing Management to ensure that products are manufactured and delivered on time and in accordance with design drawings and supporting documentation.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensures Quality Control staffing is adequate to support the site production goals
- Develops department budget and is responsible for spending on resources, materials, and expenses and to take appropriate actions as required in meeting the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for the project.
- Develop and coach quality control staff
- Ensure that manufactured components meet quality standards and specifications
- Develop and implement quality control procedures, inspection plans and quality control plans to improve efficiency and reduce defects
- Ensure quality control instrumentation is available, adequate, and calibrated. Recommend improvements to instrumentation.
- Train employees on quality control procedures to ensure compliance
- Analyze quality data and make recommendations for improvement
- Develop and implement corrective action plans related to identified non-conforming conditions or QC Program issues identified through daily activities
- Collaborate with other departments to address quality-related issues and implement solutions.
- Actively participate in customer audits, management assessments, and internal audits
- Stay up to date with industry regulations and standards to ensure compliance
- Reports on safety, security, and quality issues when identified
- Stop unsatisfactory work and controls further processing when warranted for safety considerations
- Manages the development of organizational policies, programs, processes, procedures, and training modules to meet customer requirements and commitments in the QAPD
- Attends status meetings, and stays abreast of day-to-day activities to ensure adequate oversight
- Provides Quality Control activities for the inspection of purchased items and in-house manufactured items
- Keeps upper management informed of significant scope, cost, or schedule changes concerning QC matters
Decision Making and Impact:
This position has the authority to provide leadership, planning, and direction for activities necessary to conduct business to meet regulatory requirements and to support corporate mission.
This position has shut down and stop work authority, when necessary, to ensure protection of public and worker health and safety and provide for common defense and security and to ensure regulatory and quality compliance. If such authority is exercised.
This position is accountable for the safety of all authorized plant activities performed by QC personnel. This position requires familiarity with, and adherence to, the requirements of the plant safety and health program (Industrial Safety, IH, HP, Environmental/Waste Management, and OSHA Programs) to ensure the protection of employees and the public from the effects of accidents involving radiological, chemical, electrical, or other physical hazards associated with plant activities.
Although the QC Manager has direct access to the Senior Vice President, Field Operations and reports to the Director, Regulatory and Quality Assurance, the QC Manager and organization is independent from production, plant operating cost, and production schedule concerns. The QC Manager has access to information and participates (as desired) in any evaluations or discussions related to safety, safeguards, and quality.
Relies on extensive Quality Control experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Broad latitude to manage direct and indirect reports and assigned contractors in a manner determined necessary to meet corporate goals and milestones.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or the physical sciences or equivalent technical experience
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Four plus years of management experience in QC in nuclear environment.
- Ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance.
- Ability to work in a diverse work environment.
- Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a background check and drug screening in accordance with Federal requirements (details below),
- Ability to fulfill and promote L&A core values.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Current Q Clearance.
- 4+ years of NQA-1 Experience.
