JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior Reservoir Engineer is a high-impact individual contributor role responsible for providing reservoir engineering and analytical support across BKV’s full energy portfolio. The Senior Reservoir Engineer will play a core role in M&A due diligence, risked opportunity evaluation, and strategic portfolio analysis to inform investment decisions  

This role serves as a technical lead on acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and enterprise capital allocation decisions by integrating reservoir engineering rigor with modeling and strategic judgment. Working closely with cross-functional teams, this role leverages forecasting, decline curve analysis, and scenario planning to maximize asset value and align technical evaluations with BKV’s strategy and return thresholds. Demonstrates integrity, accountability and transparency; upholds BKV standards, values and culture. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Typical job responsibilities of the Senior Reservoir Engineer, M&A include:  

M&A 

  • Lead technical due diligence efforts for potential acquisitions, divestitures, or new ventures 
  • Perform independent reserves assessments, decline curve analysis, and type curve validation 
  • Evaluate PDP, PUD, and undeveloped inventory quality and risk 
  • Build and validate type curves to incorporate into economic models to support investment committee recommendations 
  • Assess capital efficiency, development cadence, and value creation opportunities in target assets 
  • Identify operational upside, synergies, and optimization levers in acquisition targets 
  • Support data room reviews, management presentation evaluations, and technical Q&A with sellers 
  • Partner with the M&A vertical and other functions to integrate reservoir forecasts into valuation models (PV-10, NAV, scenario analysis) 
  • Support negotiation strategy by quantifying risk, uncertainty ranges, and capital requirements 
  • Assist in post-close integration planning and performance benchmarking of acquired assets 
  • Provide technical input to Board-level and investment committee materials 
  • Participate in site visits and technical field diligence as required 

Portfolio Optimization 

  • Support enterprise-wide portfolio optimization initiatives across operated and non-operated assets 
  • Benchmark asset performance (production, capital efficiency, LOE, uptime, type curve performance) against internal and peer metrics 
  • Analyze and monitor performance of existing assets across upstream fields, CCS projects, and midstream facilities. 
  • Identify high-grading opportunities, capital reallocation strategies, and underperforming asset remediation plans 
  • Develop asset ranking frameworks incorporating technical risk, capital intensity, decline profile, and free cash flow generation 
  • Quantify reinvestment thresholds and marginal return analysis to guide capital allocation decisions 
  • Support development of short-range and long-range planning (LRP) scenarios under multiple commodity price decks 
  • Develop dashboards and KPI frameworks to track asset performance relative to investment thesis 
  • Support scenario analysis and sensitivity cases 
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on increasing ROIC and cash flow resilience 

Opportunity Generation 

  • Screen basin/operator competitiveness and benchmarking 
  • Identify divestiture candidates based on risk-adjusted returns and strategic fit 
  • Assist in packaging assets for sale, including reserves validation and value maximization strategies 
  • Identify and document sources of upside and synergy opportunities including but not limited to the following: 

o   Operational Downtime

o   Midstream Bottlenecks

o   Compression optimization

o   LOE efficiency 

o   Well performance and reservoir productivity uplift  

  • Conduct and/or support field/reservoir studies 
  • Support and contribute to frac/restimulation completion designs and field/reservoir development; this role does not own operational execution

o   Support cross-functional projects as required, working closely with geoscientists, drilling/completions, and facilities engineers  

REQUIRED SKILLS 

  • Deep understanding of reservoir engineering principles and oil & gas industry standards. 
  • Experience with completions and production engineering  
  • Working knowledge of geology and petrophysics 
  • Strong analytical and data modeling skills; proficiency in Excel, Access or SQL, Tableau, Wellview, Fekete, Harmony, nodal analysis (e.g., Prosper, Perform, SNAP) and other industry software. (VBA/coding skills is a plus)  
  • Solid business acumen; ability to link technical analysis to economic outcomes. 
  • Demonstrated experience integrating technical forecasts into valuation frameworks and investment decision processes 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including ability to present to executive leadership and Board-level audiences.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering or related discipline required, master’s preferred. 
  • 10+ years of reservoir engineering experience with forecasting, reserves evaluation, and asset development. 
  • Proven experience in tight and unconventional resource plays; CCS or EOR a plus. 
  • Prior M&A or Corporate Development exposure strongly preferred  
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams. 
  • Field operations exposure beneficial. 
  • Prior experience with mentoring, training, and developing junior team members  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • This position is in Denver, CO at BKV Headquarters. Remote work will be considered. 
  • Some travel, up to 10%-15%, may be required. 
  • Hybrid of indoor and outdoor working environments, depending on assignment.

SALARY RANGE:

  • Base Pay: $113,000 - $215,000
