JOB SUMMARY: 
BKV Corporation is looking for a Health and Safety Specialist III. The Health and Safety Specialist is a key role in the Environmental, Health, Safety and Regulatory (EHSR) department and will be responsible to champion and deliver top tier health and safety performance for BKV. The Health and Safety Specialist is accountable to foster health and safety related workflows and provide guidance and support to the operations, field teams, engineering and others focusing on personal and process safety performance alike and lead investigations and indecent or violation reviews. 

The Health and Safety Specialist works closely with the Health and Safety Manager and Operations Teams to provide the structure and oversight required to ensure the departments operate efficiently and safely, delivering key Health and Safety performance and compliance.  

This role sets objectives and goals for the Health and Safety team to achieve organizational results. Ensure team members and stakeholders understand and follow policies, practices and procedures. Problems faced may be difficult but generally are not complex. Demonstrates integrity, accountability and transparency; upholds BKV standards, values and culture.  

This role is responsible for the implementation and improvement of the safety program across assets and works with managers to affect companywide health and safety practices and performance. The position will guide the activities of both field and operational staff to ensure compliance with safety policies and regulatory requirements. 

This individual is a recognized subject matter expert in EHSR matters. The Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for working to achieve operational environmental, health, safety and regulatory targets that have a major impact on departmental and business results. Work is performed with limited oversight. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Typical job responsibilities of the Health and Safety Specialist III include: 

  • Coordinate and deliver safety compliance through the development and implementation of BKV programs, policies and systems. 

  • Drive operational excellence in safety performance and compliance. Audit performance and compliance with safety programs and systems. Communicate findings to EHSR management and oversee implementation of corrective actions. 

  • Work closely with operational and engineering staff to solve complex safety issues and drive system-wide program implementation. 

  • Conduct BKV incident and accident investigations and reporting and assist with case management.  

  • Role model compliance with company safety policies. Conduct training and coach operational staff through site based and in-person meetings, with limited oversight from manager. 

  • Maintain current technical and business expertise including, staying current on Federal, State, Local and industry regulations and ensuring that BKV is compliant with regulations. 

  • Promote a culture of safety and continual improvement.  

  • Advise and support operations on EHSR matters. 

  • Manage and oversee contractors to ensure compliance with ISNetworld, safety and operational standards 

  • Influence and train staff members on policies, practices and procedures. 

  • Perform other duties as required.  

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of OSHA, TRRC, TCEQ and DOT regulations and API standards. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Proficient in technical writing, presentations and training. 

  • Proficient in computer software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office). 

  • Strong project management, coaching and leaderships skills. 

  • Self-motivated, goal oriented and able to handle multiple projects. 

  • Analytical. Keen investigative, auditing, facilitation and problem-solving skills. 

  • High level of integrity. 

  • Growth mindset with a demonstrated ability to innovate, embrace change and have grit.  

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 

  • 5-10 years of experience in occupational health, safety, and DOT management; oil and gas upstream and/or midstream experience preferred. 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Equivalent work experience will be considered.  

  • Experience in behavior-based safety applications a plus. 

  • Certifications such as Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) are a plus. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The position is aligned with BKV offices in Denver, CO; Fort Worth, TX; or Tunkhannock, PA and may be performed remotely or in a hybrid capacity. 

  • Occasional travel (~25%) all offices/assets required and as needed to support business needs.  

 

Work Environment: 

Hybrid office and field based position with standard business hours; extended hours may be required depending on business needs. May occasionally be exposed to distracting noise while sharing office space with others. 

 

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time. 

  • Ability to operate a computer, telephone and other office equipment. 

  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds. 

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.  

 

Base Pay:

  • $79,000 - $150,000 (Midpoint $109,000.00)
