Your Impact
The Director of Home Preservation (DHP) will provide overall direction of the home preservation program at HGSF, setting ambitious goals while effectively managing growth in new and existing communities. The DHP leads a team focused on high-quality home repair and home rehab services to homeowners with serious and urgent needs.  DHP will operationalize program expansion efforts ensuring effective policies, systems, and practices, including clear decision making and staff coordination. This role will work towards increasing program visibility, seeding future opportunities, and ensuring responsiveness to community needs and concerns. The DHP will establish and maintain important partnerships with community, government, and key stakeholders in targeted communities across our region. 

Primary Responsibilities
Program Operations and Management (40%) 
  • Manage program staff 
  • Develop and manage the yearly Home Preservation Budget 
  • Direct ongoing efforts to improve operational efficiency across all aspects of the program 
  • Ensure contract compliance with government funding contracts 
  • Manage quality control on origination activities, partnering with the loan officer to ensure that internal standards and external requirements/regulations are followed for every loan originated.​​​​​
Program and Policy Design and Evaluation (30%) 
  • Lead the development and refinement of all program systems, policies, and procedures, including budgeting and financial reporting   
  • Collaborate with the VP of Construction and the HP Construction Manager to ensure that HP-related construction policies, procedures, and systems necessary to meet contract requirements, rehab targets, and HGSF quality standards are in place  
  • Partner with HGSF’s Loan Officer and CFO to ensure that HGSF has origination and servicing policies, systems, and procedures in place which conform with funder requirements, regulations, and organizational standards and values.   

Leadership (30%)
  • Ensure HP has the right strategies, resources, and personnel to achieve goals for growth 
  • Partner with CPO and CEO to establish Home Preservation services in new communities and be a regional leader in this area.  
  • Establish and build relationships and partnerships with government officials, nonprofits, and other home preservation stakeholders to increase program opportunities and investment 
  • Track home preservation locally, regionally, and nationally – keep finger on pulse of activities and changes in the field 
  • Increase HGSF HP work visibility through engagement with diverse groups invested in HP across the Bay Area, state, and US.  
  • Seek opportunities to increase public and private funding for Home Preservation in partnership with Fund Development staff and the Chief Program Officer 

Minimum Qualifications
  • 7-10 years’ work experience in program development and management in housing finance, lending, or similar industry
  • Bachelors Degree or higher in relevant field
  • Demonstrated success as a relationship builder with both external stakeholders and clients/homeowners
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills; ability to manage an unpredictable workflow and possess the flexibility to respond thoughtfully and quickly  
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of populations served  
  • Experience leading systems and process improvement efforts
  • Knowledge of community and housing developmentefforts
  • Government Contract management
  • Experience with project management, event coordination, and staff supervision
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; must be able to communicate with care and integrity.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, databases, and software –
  • Must be able to travel within HGSF’s tri-county service area ( SF, Marin, San Mateo)
  • Must be able to pass background check
    (In accordance with state and county law: convictions do not necessarily rule out employment, it depends on the nature and severity of the conviction and is evaluated on a case by case basis, check is conducted on last 7 years only.)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Salesforce and MS Project or similar project management programs a plus  
Work Environment
Office Role: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. This position will be hybrid, requiring in office work. Schedule will be determined on department needs.

Physical Demands
This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and stand or bend as necessary. Must be able to travel within HGSF’s service area.

Compensation for this role is competitive, DOE. This full-time position offers medical, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, long-term disability, employee assistance program (EAP), Flex Savings Account (FSA), 403b retirement account, commuter benefits, 20 paid vacation days, 3 front loaded sick days (accrue up to 72 hours per year), and 13 paid holidays.
