Description
Responsible for providing the highest level of professional accounting service to the client by maintaining necessary accounting records and analyses to meet GAAP, GASB, Florida Sheriff’s Association Manual, State of Florida Uniform Accounting Systems Manual, and General Orders requirements. This position is integral to ensure accuracy and timeliness of accounting activities and to maintain a sound financial control environment. This position reports directly to the Fiscal Manager and indirectly to the Accounting Controller and Chief Financial Officer.

Duties
Assist in providing accreditation unit with proof of compliance documentation as directed/required, ensuring that the documentation is accurate, complete, and meets the accreditation requirements for proof of compliance.
Identify departmental efficiency opportunities and share with Fiscal Manager and/or Accounting Controller to improve technology systems and/or processes.
Validate if key internal control points are working efficiently and effectively through documented reviews.
Reconcile due to/due from accounts to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Prepare required financial grant reporting on determined frequency accurately and timely.
Review all receipts to ensure accurate and timely reporting in revenue accounts.
Review payables for accuracy and timeliness of payments and proper recording of expenses.
Review reconciliations to ensure accuracy and timeliness and follow-up on unreconciled differences to ensure timely clearing.
Review aging receivables and payables quarterly and determine appropriate course of action for collection, payment and/or write off.
Have oversight over budget encumbrances by reviewing aging purchase order report to determine course of action for collection of invoices and receipt of goods.
Monitor reasonability of adjusting journal entries by examining supporting documentation, and understanding the reasoning.
Update chart of accounts and related information, as needed, and in accordance with the State of Florida Uniform Accounting System Manual.
Keep abreast of any new or changing regulatory guidance and/or requirements (e.g., GAAP, GASB, FSA Manual, State of Florida Uniform Accounting Systems Manual, etc.)
Assist Fiscal Manager and/or Accounting Controller in preparing monthly budget to actual projections, management reporting, and discuss as applicable.
Promote a strong sense of teamwork and a commitment to mentoring others.
Develop technical and behavioral skills to enhance individual professional development as well as the overall expertise.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Fiscal Manager, Accounting Controller and/or Chief Financial Officer.
Complete, update, and submit all assigned work in an accurate and timely manner.
Maintain and accurate and up to date tracking system to ensure deadlines are met timely.
Communicate with Fiscal Manager and/or Accounting Controller status of completing critical due dates and notify if any challenges have arisen in meeting approaching critical due dates.
Continuously improve knowledge and skills by participating in training classes, and seminars designed to enhance leadership skills, knowledge, and abilities or to fulfill specific job specific requirements.
Processes applicable incoming and outgoing documents and/or files in a timely manner consistent with supervisory direction and/or agency policies/procedures.
Participates in cross-training with other co-workers; assists those co-workers when the need arises and learns new tasks by working together as a team.
Reports identified or potential maintenance, safety, and/or non-compliance findings, hazards, and incidents to the appropriate personnel and/or department.
Timely completes all assignments, special projects, and budgetary requirements (if applicable) as directed, adhering to applicable agency policies.
Adheres to leave and attendance policies, including punctual arrival and completing full shifts. Informs the supervisor about illness or untimely incidents, reports overtime hours worked, and timely submits timesheet, attendance, and leave requests.
Regularly checks assigned mailbox, phone calls, Power DMS, and email messages, responding promptly and professionally.
Makes assigned chain of command aware of anything noteworthy.
Responds to supervision, guidance, direction, and feedback from executive staff and superiors in a receptive manner and in accordance with agency policies.
Conducts themselves in a polite, helpful, courteous, ethical, and professional manner, abiding by the established code of ethics, and demonstrates a courteous and professional image when engaged in any activity with the public.

Operates and performs minor repairs for office equipment to manufacturer’s specifications and/or within the specified parameters pursuant to agency policies.

Qualifications and Requirements
Minimum Education, Experience and Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university. Successful completion of 24semester hours of college level accounting courses from an accredited institution.
Three (3) to Five (5) years of relevant work experience in governmental and/or accounting industry at a senior level.
Must pass an extensive background investigation including polygraph and drug test.
Read, speak, and understand the English language.
Proficient in Microsoft office products
Internal candidates must have successfully completed their probationary period
Internal candidates with punitive disciplinary action within 365 days are ineligible
