National Grid Renewables is seeking an experienced commercial and transaction attorney to join our team as an Assistant General Counsel. The individual will possess broad, relevant experience with all legal aspects of solar, battery storage and wind project development and financing experience. As a member of the Legal Department, the individual will act as a lead attorney and business partner working alongside the senior management team.   The individual will help execute upon the strategic and legal priorities for our growing renewable energy development company while advising on a broad range of matters to deliver best practice and ensure compliance of key commercial and contractual activities with regulatory requirements.

 

What You Will Actually Do: 

 

  • Represent National Grid’s interests in the negotiation of:
  1. project purchase and sale agreements;
  2. project power sales agreements and REC agreements;
  3. project construction-related agreements, including EPC Contracts;
  4. major equipment procurement agreements; and
  5. financing transactions, including construction and tax equity financings.
  • Assist National Grid’s asset management and operations team in the negotiation of project O&M agreements and other ancillary agreements related to ongoing operation and maintenance activities of various renewable energy projects.
  • Provide sound legal and commercial advice to National Grid’s senior management team.
  • Draft, review and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, including non-disclosure agreements, consulting agreements, master services agreements, outside counsel engagement letters and other commercial agreements.

 

What You Bring to the Role:

 

  • B.S. or B.A. and Juris Doctor Degree;
  • State bar membership in at least one state;
  • Minimum of five (5) years with top-tier law firm and/or in-house legal department with substantial experience in renewable energy project development, project finance and/or real estate and land development activities;
  • Excellent commercial judgment along with strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Attention to detail and a willingness to roll up his/her sleeves in order to dive into the facts and promote creative solutions;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet competing deadlines, and work both independently and on teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of leading teams and influencing stakeholders at senior levels and gaining support and commitment from a broad group.
  • Experience of effectively managing relationships with team members and stakeholders and working collaboratively to deliver solutions.
  • Experience in dealing with complex, high value matters and/or in the delivery of large-scale projects.
  • Commitment to National Grid’s corporate values, including the advancement of inclusion and diversity principles.
