The Estimating Analyst will work closely with the Engineering, Procurement and Construction department in developing value-engineered estimates for utility scale solar and BESS projects. The Estimating Analyst must be capable of presenting all aspects of the estimate confidently to all internal team members, demonstrating high competency of all components of the estimate and include back-up supporting documentation to defend the estimate and the information used to assemble it. There will be significant indirect financial impact dependent on accuracy of estimates.  The Estimating Analyst is responsible for producing accurate and reliable estimates for projects as well as analyzing winning EPC bids that will have a direct financial impact on National Grid Renewable’s success. The Estimating Analyst reports to the Director of Strategic Sourcing, interfaces with a variety of internal departments and interacts with a variety of external contacts including contractors, vendors and suppliers.

 

What You Will Actually Do:

  • Coordinate with internal Engineering department regarding "best fit" electrical components for all types of PV solar system construction.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels with Project Management, Engineering, and Development department personnel in order to more accurately estimate costs by project type and region.
  • Set up and manage estimating working files for projects and maintain files electronically within the company's web-based document management system.
  • Estimate solar projects utilizing a conceptual, or defined, scope of work from an internal layout and/or design inputs.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed quantity take-offs and estimates. Ensure take-offs and estimates are well notated for hand-over to the Project team. Knowledge of cost estimating software systems a plus
  • Prepare detailed manpower & equipment calculations for each project.
  • Coordinate with Procurement department on the preparation of bid packages, on analysis of EPC bids, and recommend award to senior management.
  • Review any and all permit-related documentation, e.g. geotechnical and hydrological surveys, Conditional Use Permit requirements, and incorporate these aspects into the civil portion of the estimate as needed
  • On active projects, assist with developing and/or validating project cost estimates, or EPC change orders,
  • Assist in developing approaches to site construction and in developing a project schedule upon which the estimate is built.
  • Provide input to internal teams on all financial matters affected by these estimates.
  • Perform collateral duties as assigned.

 

What You Bring to the Role:

  • Electrical Estimator with a minimum 5 years of commercial, Industrial, or utility field experience with electrical installation and applications preferred
  • Bachelor's and/or post-secondary education degree related to Engineering, Construction Management, and/or Estimating
  • Solar experience preferred.
  • Must be able to estimate all electrical components associated with both DC Solar and AC Distribution
  • Thorough knowledge of the cost estimating, and contractor bid process.
  • Familiar with electrical and general construction materials, methods, costs and scheduling
  • Working knowledge of estimating software such as "On Screen"
  • Skillful at understanding electrical plans in relation to large electrical systems; PV systems understanding preferred
  • Thorough understanding of Civil, Structural, and Electrical estimating
  • Knowledge of NEC and UBC guidelines and regulations
  • Specific knowledge of NEC 690 code requirements and associated equipment, applications, and costs
  • Proven ability to interpret conceptual and completed drawings
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Project and Outlook
  • Highly driven and hard working with high standards for themselves and others
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and juggle competing and changing deadlines effectively while remaining calm under pressure
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment and to follow directions
  • Excellent customer relation skills, including professional appearance and demeanor
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform effectively within the corporate office environment.
  • Ability to travel (up to 25%) to project sites, assess project performance, site conditions, and revise affected estimates accordingly.
