Description
Computer Tech-CAD
Tentative Duration: 6 months
Location: Soddy-Daisy, TN

Basic
  • The Central Design Organization (CDO) has a need for an individual with strong skills in AutoCAD and has the ability to interpret engineering concepts and ideas into two-dimensional drawings generated with drafting standards.
  • A working knowledge of structural steel shapes and all symbols used in the production of engineering drawings is a must.
  • Experience in nuclear power plant procedures with respect to drawing control is a plus.
Expectations
  • The drafter/designer will work closely with engineers to produce either revisions to existing drawings or drawing change authorizations (DCAs); incorporate existing DCAs into newly converted drawings (from a paper format); and have sufficient drafting ability to create working (shop fabrication) drawings from engineering designs.
Responsibilities:
  • Performs multiple task assignments involving computer graphic design and related work in the development or revision of design drawings as related to the design of architectural and engineering features of economic development projects. Prepares final design drawings working from notes, rough sketches, or oral instructions from an architect/engineer. This involves coordination with the staff, calculations, verification of compliance with design criteria, procedures, and standards, and final drawing release. When there is no procedure or precedent to follow, corrects the design problems and deficiencies so that the integrity of the drawing is maintained. Upon completion of the design layout, incumbent submits the design to the specialist for approval.
  • Transfers (inputs) graphic data to computer storage devices (i.e., discs, magnetic tapes, design files) from rough freehand sketches, verbal instructions of staff or standard engineering handbooks. This is done by analyzing the information supplied and interpreting into appropriate computer commands. Uses full potential of computer graphic equipment capability to accomplish the most usable and versatile layered drawing. Innovates new methods for computer commands and suggests additions or changes to the library of pre-stored drawings and symbols. Performs backup procedures periodically to ensure the security of this information.
  • Establishes drafting procedures for preparing and updating architectural and engineering drawings within the department which specify the correct standards and formats for these drawings. To ensure drawings meet both industry and standards, the incumbent identifies when procedures need to be modified and makes recommendations to supervisor. For example, due to technological advancements, the incumbent might recommend changes in drafting procedures to utilize a new cad system to replace existing equipment.
Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Associate of science or B.S. Degree in a related field from an accredited program or equivalent experience as a certified CAD technician.
  • A thorough and extensive working knowledge of computer graphics in expressing ideas and plans and ability to perform mathematical computations.
  • Must have experience using CAD equipment and software in producing and updating architectural and engineering drawings.
