Description

The Director of Health Informatics is responsible for the management and operation of clinical information systems at Lone Star Family Health Center.   The Director of Health Informatics develops and leads the coordination of multi-component, complex projects and/or programs to drive business goals and support the organization’s strategic direction. This position educates and assists leadership in developing strategies to respond to new program requirements and opportunities for improvement supported by external benchmarking. The position exhibits strong leadership and critical reasoning skills in decision-making, planning and organizing, initiative and ingenuity, creativity, independent decision making, problem solving, and interpreting data for large-scale and multiple site programs. The position develops positive relationships with physicians and interdisciplinary teams, interacting with all levels of the organization, from front-line staff to senior management. This position is responsible for various administrative and operational functions, including protocol development and implementation, while providing education and technical expertise related to the program for successful implementation. The Director of Health Informatics position collaborates with other Community Health Centers and partner organizations for sharing of best practices, reporting methodologies, and identification of potential duplication of effort.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. 

  • Manages team to optimize, standardize, and reduce variation in workflow as well as maintain data integrity throughout the organization while maximizing the use of the electronic health record and other information systems.
  • Plans, directs, and executes departmental initiatives to ensure organizational and departmental goals are met. Provides effective coordination and responsible, decisive actions related to documented timeframes.
  • Utilizes clinical expertise to provide consultative services to drive successful outcomes, serving as an advisor to the leadership team and faculty. Employs principles of continuous performance improvement to advance initiatives.
  • Develops materials and reports for Senior Leadership, management, and faculty, providing education, and developing strategies to respond to new requirements and opportunities for improvement supported by external benchmarking.
  • Develops and implements communication strategies throughout the organization to ensure accurate information regarding purpose, initiatives, improvement strategies, and outcomes.
  • Develops and manages the yearly operational and capital budget for the department/unit.
  • Communicates with Senior Leadership regarding concerns and issues surrounding the use of the EMR that affect Meaningful Use, HIPAA, or other compliance or governmental incentive programs.

Required:

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare, Management Information Systems, or equivalent field. 

Five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in the support and implementation of health information systems in a healthcare setting.
