Cybersecurity Systems Engineer

Purpose

The Cybersecurity Systems Engineer supports our Security Operations Center by implementing and maintaining security infrastructure. This role performs day-to-day support of the cybersecurity tool stacks, as well as executes managed security service onboarding processes. A successful Cybersecurity Systems Engineer is often someone with experience in an ITSM engineering role.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities for this position include:

• Act as escalation resource for SOC technicians and analysts as tool stack issues occur.
• Participate in the planning, design, installation, and maintenance of security systems.
• Ensure that security services are being delivered to clients according to agreement terms.
• Act as Project Lead for many managed security service onboarding projects.
• Act as Subject Matter Expert for many of our security tool stacks.
• Assist with root cause analysis for systemic issues with security applications.
• Maintain systems through routine maintenance and upgrades where necessary.
• Provide demonstrations of the security solutions and services.
• Communicate to customers and internal management: keep them informed of progress, notify them of impending changes or agreed outages, etc.
• Document internal processes and procedures related to duties and responsibilities.
• Research and develop new products, processes, and solutions to enhance delivery of our security services.
• Create documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code for current solutions.

Competencies and Qualities

Qualified candidates must meet many of the following job requirements:

• Meet client and company expectations for attendance, quality, and expertise.
• Experience deploying and supporting several of the following solutions: EDR, Vulnerability Scanning, SIEM, Secure Internet Gateway, Network IDS/IPS
• Experience researching, developing, and fully executing solutions to enhance an organization’s service delivery.

Required

• One of the following, or similar, certifications: CompTIA Security+, CompTIA CySA+, SSCP
• 3 years work experience in the Information Security field OR 5+ years working in an ITSM support or project role

Preferred

• Associate’s degree in Information Security or related field or 4+ years work experience in the Information Security or related fields
• 2+ years working in an ITSM support or project role.
• Experience with SIEM platforms, firewall management, and endpoint detection and response platforms
• Hands-on skills in at least one of the following: Powershell, NodeJS, Python, JavaScript and RESTful design
• Familiarity with writing code to move data in and out of API-driven systems.
• Experience with Linux, virtual, and container environments
• Experience with cloud services such as Azure, AWS, and GCP

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but is expected to manage security events in the Security Operations ticket queue to ensure alignment with Service level agreements.

Work Environment

In most cases, work will be performed in a climate-controlled office space.

Travel

This position requires less than 5% travel. No overnight travel should be expected.

Physical Demands

• Candidate should be able to lift 25 pounds.
• Job will require sitting for long periods of time and may occasionally require bending, lifting, and driving.

Position Type/Expected Hours

This is a full-time position for five, eight-hour days (40 hours total) per week. Typically, hours range from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST. Work day hours are negotiable. Position may require some on call availability for special projects. Projects may require shifted work hours to complete based on client requirements. Projects may require after normal working hours work to be completed.
