Role / What you will be doing

The Program BI Lead - Avatar has a central role in identifying opportunities for continuous improvements within this unique Program that licenses matched tumor and germline molecular and clinical data from tens of thousands of consented cancer patients for oncology research and novel pharmaceutical target discovery. The role requires the incumbent to develop business intelligence (BI) solutions in support of feasibility assessment, analytical and data transfer needs in support of the M2GEN Avatar Program, the Oncology Research Information Exchange Network (ORIEN) operations, and third-party research project activities. The Program BI Lead - Avatar will work closely with key stakeholders to synthesize requirements for complex data queries across multiple platforms and backend data lake, warehouse, and marts. The Program BI Lead - Avatar will perform complex data queries/analysis, ad hoc reporting, data mining, pattern and trend recognition to complete research and analysis projects using various informatics data sets.

The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate competency in advanced level BI technologies and standards. This position provides expert assessment and identification of business requirements to assist internal and external stakeholders in fulfillment of their data needs. This position will interact with physicians, researchers, administrators, and hospital staff (internal and external) to provide prompt and accurate data in compliance with applicable regulatory and protocol guidelines.

Responsibilities (this is not an all-inclusive list, duties may evolve over time as business needs change)

  • Engages with Avatar Program multi-disciplinary team to establish standard work procedures
  • Identifies key areas of improvement using industry standards for operational excellence
  • Develops and implements top-tier BI solutions
  • Performs complex data analysis, ad hoc reporting, data mining, and pattern & trend recognition using backend data lake, warehouse, and marts
  • Creates customized reports by aggregating multi-data sources while ensuring timely and accurate responses to M2GEN & ORIEN requestors
  • Works with M2GEN Clinical Informatics, Engineering/IT and Bioinformatics to develop algorithm-based data sets for integration into Avatar Program tools
  • Conducts data accuracy audits, and implements data quality assurance and quality review improvement procedures as needed
  • Merges and transforms disparate data sets into useable formats for M2GEN or external data consumers, using custom and industry standard ontologies and variable sets as necessary
  • Interact with clinical and research staff (internal and external) to provide data request support
  • Collaborates with members of M2GEN Science and Innovation, Medical Informatics, IT, Business Development & Alliance Management, ORIEN Member Relations, and Finance to complete complex data integration requests and for quality control purpose
  • Applies knowledge of Agile project management to complete active and pending data requests

Education / Experience

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in the Business Intelligence field or related area
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant programming and/or analytic experience in healthcare or pharmaceutical industry required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience using data query/reporting tools or similar enterprise business intelligence applications or using statistical applications like SAS, R, or similar applications for data manipulation and statistical analysis
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in Operational Excellence using industry leading methodologies (e.g., kaizen, PDCA, standard work, and ISO/IEC 15504)
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience with Agile methodologies for project implementation
  • Two years of experience with a focus on Cancer research and/or treatment is highly preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree in biomedical science, epidemiology, or health administration; Masters Degree preferred

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of SQL, SSIS, SSRS, and data visualization tools (Qlik, Tableau, PowerBI, among others) and data warehousing concepts
  • High-level experience in methodologies and processes for managing large scale databases
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of HIM principles as it pertains to workflow, compliance, data integrity, HIPAA privacy and security
  • Programming experience with R, Python, SQL and/or SAS.
  • Scientific background in epidemiology, biostatistics, bioinformatics or clinical research.
  • Demonstrates willingness and ability to learn and apply new technologies
  • Experience working in customer-focused environment
