ABOUT THE ROLE                                                                    

Logistics Property Company, LLC (LPC), a rapidly growing industrial real estate developer and investor in North America, is seeking a Legal Counsel - Procurement, Contracts and Real Estate to join its Legal team based in Chicago, IL. LPC transacts in various states throughout the United States. The successful candidate will receive a market rate compensation package commensurate with their experience. 

The role of the Legal Counsel will report to the Associate General Counsels, providing legal support particularly related to the transactional real estate and contract aspects of the Associate General Counsel’s duties and LPC’s investment platform.

  • The Legal Counsel will concentrate on a broad range of commercial real estate transactions for the company, including assisting each Associate General Counsel, the General Counsel and the business teams in connection with acquisitions, leases, development projects, dispositions, and financing matters, with a particular emphasis on the underlying service contracts.
  • These duties will include primary responsibility for drafting, negotiating and coordinating the implementation of real estate service contracts, and monitoring the status of all real estate contracts, including the underlying approval process.
  • These duties will also include assisting each Associate General Counsel in the drafting and negotiating of various development and financing related contracts, advising on title and survey matters, and interpreting and preparing associated legal documents, including all necessary disposition documentation.
  • The Legal Counsel will need to be familiar with commercial real estate practices and procedures throughout the United States, as well as general contract matters.
  • The Legal Counsel will advise the Company on real estate due diligence matters and work closely with other disciplines within the Company to assist in all legal aspects of the development process at each stage.
  • The Legal Counsel will assist each Associate General Counsel in managing and overseeing the Company’s real estate transactions from commencement to closing, including the necessary coordination with external counsel, title companies, counterparties, and other related parties. 
  • The Legal Counsel will also aid on regulatory matters and stay current on all legal regulations, requirements and best legal practices related to the real estate industry, contracting practices and operating companies in general.

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will:

  • Possess a J.D., a strong academic record, and bar passage in the contiguous United States.
  • Have a minimum of two (2) years of experience within a law firm or with a real estate company in an in-house legal capacity.
  • Be well-versed in real estate law, real estate acquisitions and dispositions, and contracts.
  • Have concentrated in compliance and have developed a peripheral view of related legal matters, as well as a business orientation and an appreciation for how to identify, manage and mitigate risk are essential strengths.
  • Possess outstanding oral and written communication skills are required, and the candidate will demonstrate the ability to persuade and present positions effectively with a variety of constituencies.
  • Be a team oriented professional with a selfless style, but also with the ability and confidence to work independently.
  • Display a strong work ethic, flexibility, and capacity to work in a fast-paced environment, and unqualified ethics and integrity are essential for successful integration into the company’s culture.
