KERA, the public broadcasting organization for Dallas/Fort Worth, and KUT, the NPR station for Austin, are looking for an Audience Insights Analyst to serve both organizations’ data needs. Serving the country’s fifth-largest media market, KERA reaches more than 2 million people weekly through KERA TV, KERA News, KXT and Art&Seek. The KUT Newsroom (KUT News and Texas Standard) and KUTX Music staff is a group of dedicated and talented storytellers who are committed to deepening understanding and connecting diverse audiences across Central Texas through news, culture, information and the Austin music experience.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Audience Insights Analyst is responsible for providing actionable insights that improve KERA and KUT’s ability to serve existing audiences and reach desired audiences with content, news and information and experiences that are relevant to their lives. This position will be employed by KERA but will allocate approximately 33% of its time to KUT.

The candidate should be well versed in the latest data science methodologies and analytics, using them to reach actionable conclusions from varied data sources. In addition, they will be expected to provide and present data and perspective to support vital business decisions that will advance the strategic goals of KERA, KUT and designated partners.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with CRM systems and building integrations between disparate data platforms.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • In partnership with both editorial and revenue departments and other external partners, provide data, analysis, and interpretation to inform key decisions, enabling teams across the station to track, benchmark, and improve their performance.
  • Provide data and perspective enabling KERA and designated partners to generate varying models and outcomes regarding audience targeting, new product development and business strategies.
  • Maintain advanced digital analytics, databases, and dashboards that enable cross-departmental and cross-organizational peers with seamless access to necessary data and analysis.
  • Develop analytics tracking requirements to enable in-depth analysis of website features, digital news products, apps and other products for functionality with actionable insights to continuously refine user experience.
  • Identify high-ROI channels and platforms to drive strategic marketing initiatives based on target audience(s).
  • Help conduct qualitative and quantitative audience research, including surveys and focus groups.
  • Help oversee and coordinate internal and external research studies and logistics.
  • Develop tactics to communicate key insights to staff of all levels in various departments, including explaining technical material to non-technical audiences.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve data operations and integrations at KERA and KERA partners.
  • Uphold and advance KERA’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

This is a full-time, salaried position. A successful candidate should have a four-year degree in data analysis, computer science, management information systems or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience to fulfill the position requirements.

This position requires a strong knowledge of and experience with analytics across multiple platforms, including Web, mobile apps, livestream and podcasts.

The candidate should have experience with Google/Adobe Analytics and/or other analytics platforms like Tableau or Microsoft Power BI.

Expertise in the following tools is essential to this position: Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, email service providers, and Microsoft Excel.

In addition, candidates must have experience working with CRMs (KERA uses Tessitura and KUT uses Salesforce) and content management systems to harness insights and information that drive audience and revenue objectives.

This position works frequently with other teams across the organization and must be both a team player and a self-starter. The individual must be able to manage and prioritize complex tasks and workloads from multiple departments and organizations in a calm and professional manner.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

3+ years in marketing or audience research/digital analytics, including broadcast ratings (TV/FM) and digital experience.

Strong understanding of relational databases, and experience writing complex but efficient queries in SQL.

Experience with object-oriented programming, like Python or JavaScript.

Experience with tools such as Google Data Studio, Google Tag Manager, including creation of custom events and dimensions, Chartbeat, Scarborough, Nielsen Audio, Podtrac, SuperMetrics, TapScan, Tessitura and Triton.

SALARY RANGE

$56,000 - $64,000

LOCATION:

This position will be employed by KERA while also working with KUT in Austin. However, the essential functions and duties of this position can be performed remotely. Qualified candidates are not required to live in North Texas, but will be expected to commute to KERA quarterly.
