Responsibilities:

Responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the accounting functions. Monitor internal controls, maintain systems, staff and processes to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting and integrity of fiscal assets. Use knowledge of accounting principles and overall organizational objectives to set priorities, monitor work flow and meet deadlines.  Works under direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Daily Tasks

Supervisory and Management

  • Supervises Finance and Accounting in the area of day-to-day functions, scheduling, and reporting including managing work schedules, work flow, performance feedback, conflict resolution, and coordination of group training/professional development
  • Oversees and monitors the processes of Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, General Ledger and Financial Grants Management and Financial Reporting

Budget Review and Development

  • Works with budget managers to review actual monthly expenses compared to budget and discuss any cost savings and project expenses for the remaining budget period – monthly basis or as needed
  • Works with department managers to develop the following year budget based on department needs and historical information.

 

Reporting and Analysis

  • Prepares monthly board package (all financial reports, dashboard, and reports pertaining to Fee For Service, EHS, and Subpool)
  • Prepares, as needed, Budget Revised Summary and Sustainability Fund Forecast
  • Reviews reports provided to funding agencies and grantors
  • Reports to the BOD, Finance Committee, and Audit Committee
  • Present EHS Financials to the Finance Committee

 

Accounting Duties

  • Acts as Audit – Lead contact for financial, 403b, and grantor audits. 
  • Reviews prepared audit schedules and coordinate with auditors through issuance of financial statements
  • Acts as Tax Return 990 – Lead contact.  Prepares tax schedules and coordinates with CPA firm for preparing of tax form to IRS
  • Oversees and monitors Month End Close. 
  • Reviews journal entries, deposit logs and various reconciliations
  • Monitors Cash Management flow and maintains banking relationships along with the CFO
  • Oversees and ensures accuracy of Bi-weekly payroll and retirement plan and 457 Plan contributions and matches
  • Maintains all necessary sub-ledgers for asset protection


Other Duties

  • Coordinates and/or manages budget transfers in AX
  • Prepares and posts journal entries, as needed
  • Reviews and approves all contracts and new hire requests pertaining to budget
  • Follows policies and procedures that ensure strong internal controls in a growing organization
  • Maintains training guides and follows policies and procedures for accounting systems and related process changes
  • Other duties as assigned


Physical Duties

  • No special demands are required. May be expected to lift boxes up to 20lbs.

  • Adheres to Child360 general safety practices and any unique safety practices for the department and/or building.


Knowledge and Skills Requirements: 

  

  • Proficient knowledge of nonprofit regulations with $20M+ budget experience
  • Experience with a single audit component preferred
  • Proficient knowledge of cash basis and accrual basis accrual is desirable
  • Proficient knowledge of A/X  ERP
  • Ability to prepare and analyze comprehensive financial documents
  • In depth understanding of accounting standards, laws, and regulations as it relates to accounting and payroll related matters
  • Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion
  • Advanced knowledge of business vocabulary and composition of business documents
  • Working knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling and punctuation; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to learn and apply routine office policies and procedures
  • Advanced computer skills that encompass effective use of word processing, spreadsheet, project management, presentation, mail and internet software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
  • Ability to learn moderately complex computer systems and adapt to changes in such systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interfacing with Board members, staff, providers, and stake holders
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills. Must be detail-oriented, flexible, and decisive with excellent customer service skills
  • Must have a valid California Driver License

Required Travel: None

Preferred Experience: 3 – 5 years’ experience in an Accounting related field

Formal Education:  Minimum BA degree in finance or accounting or related field required

Language proficiency: Proficient knowledge of English grammar required
