KERA is hiring a Managing Producer to lead KERA’s on-demand video and television expansion.

The station serves the country’s fifth-largest media market, reaching more than 2 million people weekly through KERA TVKERA NewsKXT and Art&Seek. For more than 60 years, North Texans have turned to KERA as a destination for community engagement and lifelong learning.

POSITION SUMMARY

KERA is seeking a managing producer to jump start its original video production for digital, VOD, and broadcast platforms. The successful candidate brings a track record of proven production excellence. This person is comfortable shooting and editing video projects alone, and producing with a crew of internal and freelance creatives.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong visual storytelling skills, and possess the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. They will manage the development and green lighting of new videos and series, and collaborate with teams across the organization to ensure video projects are successfully packaged, marketed, and reach audiences.

The ideal candidate is aware of current trends in TV, VOD, and digital video production and is a voracious consumer of streaming video media. They will establish a network of Texas filmmakers and creatives, representing KERA in the Texas creative video community and beyond.

This person is a dynamic team player who is comfortable in a fast-turnaround environment and can also help organize big-picture plans and projects. The ideal candidate is excited by the possibilities of public media and of the evolving media landscape.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
 
  • Act as lead producer for local and statewide TV and digital video projects
  • Produce, shoot, and edit video projects as needed
  • Manage a collaborative green light process for internal and external video projects
  • Develop video projects based on or spinoffs of KERA intellectual property
  • Develop new video projects that grow audience loyalty and reach new, diverse and untapped audiences.
  • Develop a network of freelance creative talent to work with KERA on video projects.
  • Manage freelance and internal staff working on video productions
  • Collaborate with creative services team for graphic needs and post-production assistance
  • Work with audience team throughout to identify audiences, brand and package, distribute, and market video projects
  • Work with revenue team to develop revenue models for KERA video projects
  • Work across teams to grow KERA’s video-on-demand audience
  • Maintain editorial standards of accuracy, thoroughness, ethics, balance and diversity
  • Participate in KERA cross departmental meetings and fundraising campaigns and represent KERA in the community
  • Uphold and advance KERA’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
 
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years in digital video and/or TV production or relevant experience
  • Demonstrate strong visual storytelling skills
  • Knowledge of current digital media production, equipment and data management processes
  • Ability to edit video and prepare finished projects for multiple delivery platforms
  • Ability to lead and motivate
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills and acute attention to detail
  • Ability to both receive and cast creative vision
  • Excellent time management skills and budget awareness
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills to interface with a broad range of clients, staff, and external vendors
  • Ability to give and receive constructive critiques
  • Ability to connect with and maintain relationships with diverse communities
  • Good command of Adobe Premiere Pro required; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Audition, Adobe Media Encoder), Avid Media Composer and Final Cut Pro

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in video production, TV, film, mass communications or related field or equivalent
  • Deep knowledge of North Texas people, cultures, issues, and geography as well as national and international issues
  • Fluent in multiple languages (Spanish preferred)
 
SALARY RANGE

$80,000-$90,000 depending on experience

LOCATION

KERA is partially operating remotely due to the pandemic. When we fully return to the office, we will continue to provide flexibility for our staff to work remotely if they so choose. We expect that this position will work out of our office at least 50% of the time.
