We primarily serve youth in middle and high schools, while providing employment opportunities and counseling supports to our alumni.

Located in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side, the campus is anchored by the state-of-the-art Gary Comer Youth Center, Gary Comer College Prep High School and Middle School. Position Summary 
GCYC is looking for a customer-oriented person with great process and documentation skills to manage technology (IT, Networking, Bldg. security – bldg. access devices, security cameras, Lockdown systems, A/V, etc.) for the Center. The Tech Manager would provide forward thinking on technology issues facing the Center as well as acquire, deploy and maintain the hardware and software needs for the center.  Items included would run from maintaining physical and wireless network, manage internet security, repair hardware issues with desktops and laptops, support users in using devices, and liaison with external vendors to maintain our technology. The Center primarily supports after-school activities of youth so Tech manager should be available in the Center during peak times when staff prepare and execute program delivery to youth between 3 pm – 7 pm. 
 
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 
Responsibility  % of time in a week 
Acquire, install, maintain and repair laptops, desktops, Chromebooks and tablets.  
 
Serve as in-house help desk to all staff and visitors  25 
Maintain Active Directory, set up and manage user accounts and permissions to access network. 
Install and manage AP, physical and wireless network (20 access points) including VPNs and manage passwords for each user and device  10 
Install and maintain Internet and phone connections 
Manage Office 365, Teams and Sharepoint environments and educate staff on best use of these applications  10 
Manage, monitor and maintain network security including penetration testing, educating staff on security issues such as phishing, spear fishing, etc., and applying patches to network and computers in a prompt fashion.  10 
Maintain physical (4) and logical servers (6) and VPNs  10 
Camera Installation & Upkeep (100+ cameras) including on-site video servers. 
Provide security and police access to camera recordings Manage lockdown systems, roll down doors, and emergency alert systems. 
Liaison with external service providers for the following systems: 
  • Fire and burglar alarms (Securitas) 
  • Building access control (Securitas) 
  • Analog camera (Securitas) 
  • Paging system (Singlewire) 
  • Network infrastructure (IT Resources) 
  • Help desk ticketing (IT Resources) 
Establish and continually reassess policy, procedures and standards regarding IT and network security, device specifications allowed to be acquired by GCYC staff, etc.,  10 
 
Miscellaneous:  
  • Responsible for maintaining a physically and emotionally safe environment to further ensure proper youth supervision and managing conduct issues and incidents. 
  • Manage a part-time assistant 
  • Attends required staff meetings and training. 
  • Responsible for accurate data collection and data entry for grant and program compliance. 
  • Supports the mission of GCYC. 
  • Works collaboratively in a team setting serving the needs of youth. 
  • Is committed to the safety and development of all GCYC members. 
  • Takes on other duties as needed. 
  • Serves as a role model for youth and community. 
  • Abides by the employee handbook and established GCYC policies and procedures. 
 
Minimum Qualifications 
  • Prior experience doing desktop and application support 
  • Prior experience managing a Cisco/Meraki network 
  • Experience in using and managing Microsoft Active Directory 
  • Must have experience with administrating Microsoft Office 365 products 
Desired Qualifications 
  • Cisco CCNA 
  • Experienced in managing and deploying Teams and Sharepoint 
  • Theater audio and visual systems experience 
  • Networked and analog security camera expertise 
  • Technology teaching experience

Physical Work Requirements & Environment:  
The GCYC environment is consistently bustling with youth and community members. The Center’s work is fast paced and varied. Our work is done on site where our youth and families are. Therefore, it is required that team members meet these requirements: 
  • Must be able lift up to 40 pounds. 
  • A flexible schedule for evening and some weekend hours is required during the school year. Summer hours have a more traditional work schedule.
