Historic Hudson Valley (HHV) is a Westchester-based cultural non-profit that welcomes visitors to five National Historic Landmarks, including Philipsburg Manor, Washington Irving’s Sunnyside, and Kykuit, the Rockefeller Estate. The organization has a national reputation for groundbreaking on-site educational programs and an award-winning digital presence in the content areas of Northern colonial enslavement, regional women’s history, and storytelling.  HHV offers an array of K-12 school programs, public tours, and seasonal festivals including the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze, now presented each fall in both Westchester and Long Island.
HHV seeks a candidate with a strong customer service and hospitality orientation to support the evening event staffing needs of the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze, including recruitment, training, scheduling, and evaluation.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated skill in management and deployment of a team that is focused on delivering an exemplary, outdoor, guest experience. The position has a seasonal schedule with flexible hours during the spring and summer and a considerably greater time commitment during the 50-night Blaze run in September, October, and November.
Job Overview
  • Work with other HHV staff to recruit, onboard, train, motivate and evaluate temporary visitor facing staff for the Great Jack O’ Lantern Blaze
  • Serve as Manager-on-Duty at the Blaze during the months of September, October, and November, outdoors and in all weather conditions
  • Model and propagate an environment of exceptional customer service and hospitality
  • Resolve guest concerns with the goal of achieving positive outcomes, within the parameters of HHV’s policies
  • Supervise, manage, train, and lead staff, by coaching and directing in real time throughout the event season
  • Understand and be capable of implementing emergency plans for a large, outdoor public event

Requirements
  • Minimum of 3-5 years demonstrated experience managing teams in a high volume, high satisfaction, guest experience environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and proven ability to lead and motivate a wide variety of people
  • Commitment to the highest standards of customer service and hospitality
  • Commitment to the best practices in event safety
  • Computer literate (MS 360) and comfort with staff scheduling software
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors, in all weather conditions
