Summary
The Landscape Architect will work collaboratively with Project Engineers and Project Managers on site development projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Development of site plans from concept through construction, under guidance of senior staff
  • Design of plans to include knowledge of water conveyance and retention, utility easements, parking/vehicular and pedestrian circulation, open space, access/egress points, vehicular circulation, landscape areas, etc., under guidance of senior staff 
  • Conduct zoning code, land development regulation and comprehensive plan research, and apply standards to design concepts under guidance of senior staff
  • Prepare mathematical calculations for site plans, including pervious area, impervious area, site density, building coverage, FAR, sign area, etc., under guidance of senior staff
  • Coordination with clients and consultants and act as liaison to government agencies
  • Work with Project Manager to maintain project schedules and budgets
  •  Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Travels less than 10% of the time which may be out of state

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications 

Ability to review and understand plans, specs, and reports including site, grading, utility, foundation, details, structural, drawings, architectural, grading, federal, state and local regulations.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture or related design profession from an accredited university
  • Demonstrated 1+ years in progressively responsible design experience in site planning practice
  • Demonstrates reliable understanding of the relationship between design and constructability
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite required
  • Experience using computer software programs including SketchUp, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and/or Illustrator is a plus
  • Proficiency in preparing hand drawn sketches, graphics and illustrations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to write business correspondence and presentations
  • Ability to work as a team, or independently
  • Valid Driver’s License and possess reliable transportation to access job sites
  • Proficient in communicating both verbal and written in the English language. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee may lift and/or move less than 25 pounds. The employee is frequently required to use hands or fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

Work Environment

Approximately less than 10% of the work is conducted outdoors. Worker must be able to walk frequently on uneven hard and soft ground/terrain in all types of weather conditions to include cold, hot rain, snow, ice, etc. Employees working in the field may also be exposed to sun, wind, insects, plants, animals, etc. As a result, appropriate clothing for outdoor work, work boots, safety glasses, hard hat, safety vest is required while working in the field.
