Historic Hudson Valley (HHV) is a Westchester-based cultural non-profit that welcomes visitors to five National Historic Landmarks. The Education department of HHV offers an array of school programs, public tours and programs, and digital offerings for audiences that include K-12 teachers meeting curricular objectives and their students; suburban families seeking weekend leisure activities; and a diverse array of heritage tourists. HHV has a national reputation for groundbreaking on-site interpretation and award-winning digital content in the content areas of Northern colonial and New Nation enslavement, regional women’s history, and storytelling. HHV has several openings for seasonal Part-Time Museum Educators to join our team.

Job Overview

  • Tell the people-focused stories of HHV’s historic sites through engrossing, thought-provoking, and accurate tours, K-12 field trips, and public programs (both on-site and virtual).
  • Host, moderate or lead high-quality, audience-focused virtual field trips and tours of HHV’s sites using Zoom, Google Classroom, and other platforms.
  • Deliver meaningful content, particularly around challenging subjects such as Northern slavery and the history of women, with clarity and sensitivity.
  • Perform all interpretive duties properly attired in reproduction historic clothing or appropriate street clothing, as assigned.
  • Perform all necessary physical tasks associated with interpretation (including but not limited to hearth and brick oven cooking, gardening, gristmill operation, weaving, and coopering)
  • Be responsible for the safety of the visitor and the security of the collections when on tour.
  • Must be available to work at HHV events, including weekends and holidays. Availability and flexibility during HHV Fall event season to work appropriately twelve evening shifts, five to six hours each shift.

Requirements

  • Must demonstrate a fundamental understanding of the arc of American history and an awareness of the intersection of racial equity and social justice.
  • Strong storytelling and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Zoom, Google Classroom, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be willing to dress in period costume (provided).

· Successful candidates are required to be fully vaccinated for Covid-19, absent medical, religious, or pregnancy related accommodations and will be required to submit proof at time of hire.
