We are currently seeking an experienced Piping Designer Lead V  for our office located in Baton Rouge, La

Education:
Required: HS Diploma or equivalent
Preferred: Associate degree in Engineering Graphics/Drafting or equivalent with basic drafting courses training from vo-tech or another applicable program.
Experience:
Required: 15 years, field experience, experience working in the refining/petrochemical industry(s) preferred.  8 years of experience as Piping Designer on medium and large multi-discipline projects utilizing 3D software to produce all deliverables.

Preferred: 12 years of technical work experience. As an alternative, a minimum of three years of education in an associate or bachelor’s degree program for the relevant discipline and nine years of experience.  Experience based multiple projects utilizing 3D software to produce all deliverables.

Software: AutoCAD, CADworX, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Navisworks, LFM, Recap.
Purpose:
Performs routine and difficult design assignments, which require knowledge and skill in piping basic drafting techniques, procedures, and knowledge of certain industry standards under minimum supervision.  Supervises other design personnel.  Assignments are designed to further develop the incumbent’s job knowledge and abilities. Individual must act as a professional in all interactions with team personnel and clients.

Duties and Essential Functions:
  • Independently develops, CADD drawings from design sketches or catalog information.
  • Track and report project progress.
  • Work directly with Project Management during execution for projects and direct assigned piping team.
  • Performs and directs piping design /design calculations, sizing components and layouts consistent with assigned discipline to produce efficient and workable drawings for projects.
  • Prepares Piping Estimates and Scopes of Work under the direction and assignment of the Department Manager.
  • Prepares and writes specifications from the scope of work for tagged material or equipment of basic items necessary for execution of the scope of work. (per discipline required)
  • Marks up works in progress for others to draft (or CADD).
  • Demonstrates a continuing consciousness of safety in daily activities and implemented in work designed.
  • Prepares complex engineering and construction drawings from scratch, sketches, or verbal instruction, utilizing manual or computer-assisted drafting/design techniques.
  • Performs related fundamental engineering support tasks such as updating computer lists, filing prints, distributing drawings, making simple calculations, proofreading reports, compiling Bills of Material, etc.
  • Checks (and takes the responsibility for) the work of other designers and drafters.
  • Mentors less experienced designers and drafters.
  • Communicates the design process with assigned discipline and coordinates work with other disciplines on assigned projects.
  • Interface with client as required to complete advanced design work.
  • Utilize information from vendor prints, catalogs, technical manuals, etc. to do design work
  • Supervise and furnish work for designers and other drafting personnel.
  • Field notes are neatly arranged, accurate and complete.
  • Sketches are readable by anyone and include all pertinent dimensions, notes, and job number.
  • Familiar with design codes, specifications, and standards.
  • Developing design concepts with minimum engineering input.
  • Uses time efficiently.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of progress.
  • Quality assurance for personal work assignments.
  • Supports field assignments as required.        
  • Must be able to perform the functions of the lower classification.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit; climb, balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision depth perception, and ability to focus.  Employee must be able to climb ladders as typically found in petrochemical facilities.
Working Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may periodically be required to travel to client jobsites, usually involving heavy industrial (chemical) production facilities and access all areas of the facility. Therefore, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and the risk of electric shock.   The noise level in workplace can be loud to moderate depending on assignment.  Respirator fit testing may be required.  Note:  This job description is not a contract.
