Description
GSE Absolute, is currently working with a major client who are looking for a Perception Sensor Engineer to join them in helping to develop world-class sensor systems for autonomous trucking. They are located in Mountain View, CA.

Our client specializes in developing innovative autonomous technology including advanced technology stack purpose-built specifically for long-haul trucks. This includes sensor fusion systems for their unique lightweight mapping solution that allows their trucks to navigate ever-changing highway construction zones.

They are looking for a Sensor Hardware Engineer with a focus on Autonomy Trucking Software who should ideally have experience having worked in a (warehouse, mining, farming, or agricultural equipment background); to join and help them develop their world-class sensor systems for autonomous trucking.  They first published their Safety Report in 2019 and have based our development on systems engineering, the ISO26262 process and SOTIF principles.

Qualifications:

Strong technical background. BS or MS, or equivalent experience, in Physics, Mechanical Engineering or related fields with 2+ years of experience in the automotive, aerospace, or related industry. CAD and perception sensor experience a plus. 

A team leader. Whether formally or informally, you have previously played the lead role on several projects. You take ownership and drive the team to deliver exceptional results

Proven ability to build and iterate quickly. You have experienced product development in all of its stages and are comfortable in the earlier stages – moving from zero to one.

Hands on. You are just as comfortable with a wrench as a keyboard. You have a deep understanding of manufacturing processes for both low and high-volume production.

Great communicator. You have experience writing clear, concise, and detailed documentation. You are skilled in leading and participating in cross-functional design reviews.

In This Role You Will:
  • Define use cases and requirements for the autonomous-driving sensor suite, including cameras, lidar, radar, surround view, and weather sensors.
  • Research and evaluate the latest in perception sensor technologies.
  • Develop and execute hands-on sensor tests to help define vehicle architecture and improve perception performance.
  • Assist with sensor integration onto the vehicle and debugging issues that arise.
  • Design novel electro-mechanical systems to improve sensor performance, such as sensor cleaning systems. 
  • Manage relationships with contract manufacturers, suppliers, and external partners.
  • Design and organize manufacturing for test fixtures and sensor mounts that will survive in the harsh environment of trucking.
