Position Summary:
This position is responsible for analyzing and classifying risk for life insurance applications, in accordance with established underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:

A successful individual in this role will make critical risk decision on whether to accept, modify, or decline a risk through evaluation of an individual's medical, non-medical and financial information based on Everlake’s Underwriting Manual / Guidelines while meeting departmental time service standards.
Additionally, the individual will:- Have proven competency in aspects of Life Insurance Underwriting and general knowledge of medical and financial terms and impairments, preferred and impaired risk, and legal aspects of insurance contracts and underwriting guidelines.
- Have proficiency in the use of the Swiss Re Underwriting Manual, reading Attending Physician’s Statements, evaluating information reported to the Medical Information Bureau, reviewing Motor Vehicle Records, and using underwriting workflow software to manage daily work.
- Adhere to and ensure accurate and consistent application of Everlake’s Underwriting Policies and Procedures. Evaluate risks according to established guidelines making determinations of the terms, coverage, and rating classification within designated approval limits.
- Successfully manage varying application volumes within set quality standards and turnaround times.
- Confidently answer questions regarding underwriting rules / procedures and discuss decisions with internal and external stakeholders to explain the rational for underwriting decisions.
- Handle sensitive information with discretion and diplomacy.
- Show initiative in meeting/exceeding productivity and quality standards. Assist team members and the larger department as needs arise.
- Continually look for ways to improve underwriting efficiency and quality. Demonstrate a willingness to question established practices and challenge others in a professional manner. Enhance departmental outcomes by sharing knowledge and collaborating with team members.
- Have strong organizational, time management, communication, decision making, and problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt to change as needs arise.
- Work independently in remote setting on a virtual team while maintaining positive interactions and building relationships with other team members.
Education, Experience & Skills:- 5+ years underwriting experience
- Experience reviewing cases and prior approval authority up to $1,000,000, through table 4, and through age 65. Approval authority up to $2,000000, through table 16, and through age 80 is a plus.
- Strong medical and financial underwriting knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail
- Ability to work both individually and as a team to accomplish goals
- History of mentoring junior underwriters and/or providing second approvals is a plus
- EKG authority is a plus
- FLMI, CLU, or ALU certifications or progress towards these certifications is a plus
