Job Purpose:
To perform Pre-OP, PACU and Circulating responsibilities as well as to assume many of the daily operational tasks of an ambulatory surgical center.
Essential Functions:Qualifications and Education Requirements- Prepares the operating room according to the procedure being performed and the patients' needs.
- Anticipates the needs of the surgical team and assists the anesthesia staff by supporting the patient during anesthesia administration.
- Assists with the proper and safe positioning of the patient and prepares the operative site as directed by established procedure.
- Assists with supply ordering and inventory management.
- Completes required data collection to meet state regulations.
- Initiates IV's, administers medications, and ensures patient comfort.
- Ability to assess, instruct, and prepare patients prior to surgery and prior to discharge.
- Monitors patients' vital signs and other measurements of progress to meet discharge criteria.
- Has the ability to act quickly and safely in the event of an emergency.
- Demonstrates an aptitude for maintaining pace of abbreviated patient encounters, keeping patient flow to a minimum peri-operative stay.
- Exhibits specialized knowledge, skill, and abilities in the fundamentals of peri-operative nursing
- Demonstrated knowledge to clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instrumentation according to ANSI, AAMI, and APIC standards.
- Shows a strong respect for co-workers.
- Demonstrates willingness to abide by the practice's protocols, as well as state and federal regulations and presents oneself with a positive and professional image.
- Additional responsibilities as required.
Required Competencies- Prior pre-operative, surgical and/or PACU nursing experience.
- Graduated from an accredited school of nursing with a diploma, Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
- Holds an active and unrestricted nursing license in the state of Alaska.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
