Job Purpose:
The Medical Assistant is usually the first clinical contact a patient has with the practice.  While supporting the mission and philosophy of the practice, this employee assists the physician and nurse navigator in coordinating patient care and providing quality clinical expertise.  The Medical Assistant serves as the key liaison between the patient and the navigator. The position must be able to demonstrate empathy, composure and politeness at all times while dealing with patients.  The position must also be able to work and interact as part of a team and have the skills to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
Essential Functions:
  • Proficient in all duties of Medical Assistant ll including ability to float to Patient Concierge I as needed and ability to perform job duties and be proficient in Support Staff. Ability to perform job duties and be proficient in Support Staff. Duties of Support Staff include but are not limited to PTNS treatments, BCG, Mitomycin, and Valstar.
  • Assists with Navigation of patients for specific disease states such as Overactive bladder, BPH, Prostate Cancer, and Chronic Care Management.
  • Works closely with Nurse Navigator to make sure all patients are successfully captured and followed through treatment pathway.
  • Assist in enrollment of new therapies which may include prior authorization.
  • Ability to use PPS Analytics, internet-based programs, and other web-based tools for navigation purposes.
  • Assists in patient callbacks and prescription refills under the direction of provider.
  • Fills in as Triage Liaison as needed.
  • Pharmacy Technician responsibilities are as follows but not limited to; process new and refill prescriptions, promote patients drug compliance, accept full responsibility for the patient’s dispensary care plan, maintain current records, help enroll patients in foundation funding and maintain with patient and provider.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Continually searches for efficient, patient focused work methods.  Discuss implementation of methods with management.
  • Promotes teamwork and works effectively with others. Displays a positive attitude at all times.
  • Continually searches for efficient, patient focused work methods and process improvements.
  • Adheres to all OSHA regulations and HIPAA policies.
  • Maintains annual competencies and/or training.
  • Performs other related work/duties as required and assigned.
 
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience.
  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Certified or eligible for certification as a Medical Assistant in the state of employment.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Basic PC skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as necessary.

Preferred Skills
  • Oncology and/or Radiology experience.
  • Urology practice experience.

Excellent judgment, dependability, conscientious performance.  Detail oriented.  Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.  Caring and empathetic.  High ethical standards. Mechanical ability and manual dexterity for operating complicated equipments.
