This position contributes to the success of the company through accountability, responsiveness, and a solutions-oriented mindset. The Director of Engineering will be responsible for managing and coordinating all efforts of the SYNEO, R&D and EBD Engineering teams. This role will be the main point of contact for all product design and development, balancing the needs of the customers with company goals and objectives.

JOB DUTIES

Essential Job Functions:
The Director of Engineering will provide reliable and timely support in the following functions:
  • Provides the technical expertise to support and advance the engineering personnel in the development of automated machinery
  • Plans and executes project plans, revising as appropriate to meet requested needs and revisions
  • Confers with Executive Management, Production, and Sales/Marketing to discuss project specifications and procedures
  • Develop, implement, and maintain engineering processes across each business unit.
  • Analyzes technology, resource needs, and market demand to plan and assess the feasibility of potential projects
  • Ensures timely delivery of projects by meeting project schedules and timelines – tracking progress throughout
  • Manages day-to-day operational aspects of engineering projects
  • Ensures consistent design and implementation methodologies, promoting these processes throughout the development staff
  • Directs, reviews, and approves product designs, updates, and revisions
  • Evaluates engineering staff and works with the team to improve skill sets and Engineering processes
  • Manages and develops Engineering staff, includes hiring, training, and evaluating performance
  • Ensures documentation of all Engineering projects and activities
  • Develops and implements processes, standards, and procedures for Engineering and other technical activities performed within the department
  • Performs administrative functions such as editing and creating reports, approving expenditures, and enforcing SYNEO policies and procedures
  • Analyzes purchasing options for selection of materials and/or services
  • Consults with clients to understand project specifications and client needs and expectations, negotiating alternatives as needed
  • All other duties as needed to assist the company in attaining its objectives

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

On occasion, may require lifting of up to 50 lbs as needed to move items during production process. May sit at a computer for long periods as needed.

SKILLS
 
  • Must be experienced in the design and development of automated equipment/machinery
  • Must possess a high-level understanding of document control, ASME Y14.5 and GD&T
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of electrical controls and mechanics
  • Professional communication and negotiation skills are essential in internal and external interactions
  • Strong leadership skills are necessary to ensure team development, departmental cooperation, and project fulfillment
  • Strong understanding of theoretical and applied Mechanical and Electrical Engineering principles related to machine design
  • Must have a successful track record of innovation and personal contribution to product research and development
  • Ability to read and write English
  • Able to function in a dynamic, fast paced, environment

QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • EXPERIENCE – minimum 10 years of engineering management experience
 
  • EDUCATION – Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position will primarily be located in a controlled office environment and may involve occasional travel to customer and/or vendor sites as well as SYNEO global locations.​​​
