Position Description
The Registered Nurse will support the U.S. Army Medical Command as the outpatient primary care aid station nurse manager. Act as the primary facilitator of clinical services and medical administrative duties. Work directly with aid station manager, a Physician Assistant, and other various medical professionals in the delivery of primary care, urgent care, and preventative medicine.

The contracted Health Care Provider will provide the following services and in strict compliance with standing orders and protocols set forth by the Military Treatment Facility, and IAW Joint Command guidelines to include, but will not necessarily be limited to the following:

  • Coordinate patient care through a continuum and facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to care, quality and cost effectiveness.

 

  • When required, participate in the orientation, training, and evaluation of duty performance of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.

 

  • Maintain excellent patient assessment skills. Use the nursing process as a basis for professional practice. The contracted RN will demonstrate proper preparation of patients for treatments and procedures, to include surgical interventions. Provide proper care and evaluation of post-procedural patients.

 

  • Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate plans/actions and collaborate with a diverse healthcare team for the benefit of the patient, family, and organization. Effectively educate patients and families regarding involvement in the plan of care, promotion of self-care, management of symptoms, and follow-up care.

 

  • Demonstrate excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity in accordance with requirements.

  •  

  • Demonstrate ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react quickly and appropriately in emergency situations. Demonstrate ability to obtain, assess, and report critical lab or diagnostic results to patient’s physician in a timely manner.

  •  

  • Demonstrate ability to act on all medical and therapeutic orders in a timely manner.

  •  

  • Adhere to peri-operative, infection control and safety policies and procedures.

  •  

  • Demonstrate good time management skills.

  •  

  • Report to aid station physician assistant or senior health care professional on duty at the time for clinical care related issues.

  •  

  • Duties related to facilitating delivery of primary care, urgent care and preventative medicine are, but not limited to: triage and direct services of medical care, obtain medical history and perform appropriate examinations, evaluate and treat minor medical conditions, and dispense prescription and over-the-counter medications in accordance with standard operating procedures, administer immunizations, compose clinical notes and chart care as required, and manage administrative patient encounters.

  •  

  • Duties related to management of front desk/reception, but not limited to: facilitate patient intake and flow of care through clinic, organize and maintain hard-copy medical and dental records, manage aid station medical database, manage clinical appointment calendar, place orders in Composite Health Care System/ Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA) and review results when requested, generate medical readiness reports, develop policies and plans to improve efficiency, safety and accountability of medical services and materials.

  •  

  • Duties related to management of treatment rooms immunization and lab area are, but not limited to: assure treatment areas are clean, organized and appropriately stocked, perform routine inventory of supplies, immunization and lab materials, perform routine equipment maintenance checks, assist with ordering of supplies and equipment, assure pharmacy room is clean and organized, maintain accountability of medications and supplies, conduct monthly inventory of narcotics IAW regulations and policy, develop and maintain medication labels.

  •  

  • Duties related to management of patient reception area are, but not limited to ensure - waiting room is clean, organized, and maintained, manage inventory of stocking of handouts and materials.


Education / Certification

  • A graduate of a Diploma, Bachelor or Master’s program of Registered Nursing. The institution will be from a National League of Nursing (NLN) approved program.

  •  

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)


Experience

  • 5-years’ experience as a Registered Nurse.

  •  

  • Continuously employed, for a minimum of one year, as a registered nurse in an outpatient clinical setting.


Licensure
Valid, unrestricted, RN license at least one state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S.

Other Qualifications:

  • Shall be able to read, write, speak, and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.

  •  

  • Shall be knowledgeable of equipment and supply terminology and skill sufficient to identify and use necessary equipment and supplies properly and to communicate proper use with nurses, medical staff, patients, and family members.

  •  

  • Shall be sufficiently skilled to teach patients proper self-care and to motivate patients and family members to continue the procedures for promoting rapid healing.

  •  

  • Shall be knowledgeable and possess skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients. The contract health care provider shall demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the appropriate patient population served.

  •  

  • Assess, coordinate, facilitate, deliver, and evaluate care for infant to geriatric patients using the nursing process.

  •  

  • Possess fundamental knowledge of military medical policies and practices.

  •  

  • Knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records. Possess strong organizational and administrative skills.

  •  

  • Maintain high level of professionalism oriented toward customer service. ​​​​​

  • Shall be a U.S citizen.

     

  • Shall hold and maintain a U.S. driver’s license.

Security Clearance Requirements
This position requires an active Secret security clearance on hire date and ability to obtain Top Secret clearance within 120 days.


Travel
CONUS travel for 5-7 days 3 times per year may be required.
