The Knowledge House’s mission is to empower and sustain a talent pipeline of technologists, entrepreneurs, and digital leaders, who will uplift their communities out of poverty.
 
The Knowledge House (TKH) approach is to (1) close gaps in the education­-to-­employment pipeline in underserved Bronx neighborhoods by teaching young adults aged 16­-24 skills to launch careers or ventures in technology, and (2) support links between local youth, tech innovation, and business development that bring positive community impact. Headquartered in the South Bronx, the poorest congressional district, TKH has served more than 1,900 students. Current core programs include our Innovation Fellowship focused on software engineering, cybersecurity, and design for adult job trainees, and our Karim Kharbouch Coding Fellowship for high school students learning computational thinking and web design.

Job Summary:
The Director of Marketing & Communications will create and guide the strategy for all communications, website, and public relations messaging and collateral to consistently articulate The Knowledge House’s mission. The Director of Marketing and Communications will also play a critical role in leading our digital marketing strategy including Pay-Per-Click (PPC), Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM), and Social Media Marketing (SMM). The Director of Marketing & Communications will primarily lead the following activities. These include, but are not limited to:
 
  1. Communications (25%)
    1. Lead as our Chief Storyteller by producing exciting and engaging content that inspires people to join the TKH community as students, donors, volunteers, and funding partners.
    2. Formulate and execute communication strategies to build The Knowledge House’s reputation as a thought leader in finding, retaining, and sustaining tech talent of color.
    3. Oversee the creation of communications materials to ensure that they are consistent with the company’s communication strategy, including white papers, website copy, and more.
    4. Support the branding and design of all external facing assets to ensure alignment on messaging, a compelling call to action, and storytelling.
    5. Supervise the creation of video and audio content to support the communications strategy.
    6. Conducting quality control for all written copy and visual communications
    7. Oversee the design, content, and maintenance of the TKH website and other online platforms, including social media management.
  2. Marketing (25%)
    1. Define key performance indicators and digital media analytics for each communications channel that will indicate a campaign’s level of success.
    2. Identify strategies to effectively market to our various constituent groups, including applicants, institutional partners, donors, and volunteers, via paid, free, digital, and traditional channels.
    3. Review current marketing trends to determine the effectiveness of different styles and strategies.
    4. Analyze our return on investment and which online campaigns are most effective.
    5. Determine strategic marketing campaigns that will help further organizational goals.
  3. Public Relations (25%)
    1. Develop an outreach strategy for national branding.
    2. Supervise the Public Relations consultant monitoring deliverables and deadlines and helping to cultivate PR strategy.
    3. Supervise the execution of thought leadership.
    4. Own TKH internal scorecard metrics related to press, such as # of press hits, articles published/reshared, and thought leadership opportunities.
    5. Supervise all philanthropic (ask) events and programmatic (non-ask) events.
    6. Reach out to influencers, media, and beyond to arrange story placement nationally and globally.
    7. Create media kits for influencers and TKH stakeholders to amplify the organization’s mission, programming, and events.
  4. Supervision of the Marketing & Communications Team (25%)
    1. Review and report progress toward communications KPIs and goals.
    2. Develop a yearly budget for the Marketing & Communications department.
    3. Hire and develop staff to deliver high-quality work products.
    4. Supervise Communications Specialist in the creation of digital marketing and outreach strategy and implementation.
    5. Work with the Associate Director of Development and External Affairs on philanthropic communications, including executing external activities and events.
    6. Review and edit all external communications before sharing them with the CEO for final approval, including flyers, newsletters, pitch decks, email templates, and site content
 
Qualifications & Skills:
You’re an ideal candidate if you are/have:
  • A Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree is preferred.
  • 8+ years of professional marketing experience, with preferred experience in philanthropic communications
  • Knowledge of technical education, youth development, and workforce development landscape.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data, metrics, and storytelling to communicate TKH’s mission and work to a variety of stakeholders and audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate your staff to produce high-level, brand-driven content.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize projects while working on a deadline or in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and digital communication skills.
  • Existing relationships within the New York City funding community and existing relationships with national funders is a plus.
  • Articulate, professional demeanor with strong self-confidence and initiative.
  • A track record of successful senior stakeholder management.
  • Able to build relationships quickly and effectively.
  • Excellent organization and time management; ability to multitask and manage multiple projects.
  • A self-starter, resourceful and resilient.
  • Passionate about grassroots approaches and tech as a tool for social good.
                                                                       
The salary range for this role will be between $95K - $115K.  Benefits for full-time staff include health, dental, and vision insurance, a 2% 401k match, a monthly tech stipend, and unlimited paid time off.
