Position Summary:   

Under the direction of Production Manager, works to improve operational efficiency for production of existing designs, improve production process capability, manufacturability, and release new designs to high-yield production. Works directly with manufacturing operators to define, evaluate, and improve manufacturing bottlenecks and inefficiencies. Evaluates and manages various activities associated with production and sustainment engineering of BMS products including RF and Microwave products. Uses ERP and other tools effectively. Researches automation techniques, tests new products, and plans factory layouts to optimize production. Mentors production teammates and nurtures less experienced colleagues. Acts as the main communications bridge between the Production Department and Engineering Department.  

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

  1. Lead production activities and leverage ERP tools to meet performance, costs, delivery schedules, and manufacturability goals.
  2. Lead the testing and evaluation of products including wireless RF and microwave transmitters and receivers.
  3. Lead manufacturing process improvements including LEAN manufacturing methodologies and practices. Drive 5S implementation and monitor adherence.
  4. Review schedules and production requirements and assist management to make decisions on priorities; also calculate labor, material and other production costs.
  5. Create mechanical 3D models and 2D detail drawings using latest release of SolidWorks, CadKey and Visio.
  6. Generate assembly drawings from detailed parts, sketches and verbal instruction.
  7. Develop and maintain bill of materials (BOM’s).
  8. Support and incorporate Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s).
  9. Lead manufacturing floor and machine shop as required.
  10. Analyze and plan workflow, equipment placement and space requirements to improve manufacturing efficiency and develop manufacturing floor layouts.
  11. Evaluate quality control processes and make recommendations for quality improvement.
  12. Ensure that manufacturing processes are in full compliance with ISO and other Production Standards as well as government laws and OSHA regulations.
  13. Coordinate equipment Maintenance, Repair and Calibration services, ensure manufacturer’s procedures and instructions are followed in order to keep production equipment operational.
  14. Assist in other job duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibility: 

Will lead, mentor, train, and motivate engineers, technicians and other production teammates.

Qualifications: 
  • Education/Training: Minimum Bachelor of Science related to a Manufacturing Discipline or Electronic/Radio Frequency Microwave Engineering, or similar degree. 
  • Experience: Minimum 2 to 5 years manufacturing engineer and lead manufacturing experience. Bench testing and assembling experience. LEAN Six Sigma experience preferred. 
  • Skills/Technical Requirements: Ability to prioritize manufacturing activities and lead the production team. Ability to solve production challenges. Ability to lead the team and focus the staff on critical actions to meet production schedules and customer commitments. Ability to follow existing guidelines and processes and implement improvements or new guidelines as needed. Knowledge of wireless RF and microwave technologies and products. Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Engineering Practices (GEP). Familiarity with aluminum, steel, stainless steel, sheet metal, machining, gears and thermal concerns. Practical familiarity with SolidWorks. Practical experience with documentation of products and procedures. Strong analysis and problem-solving skills. Excellent ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Mentor and support teammates. Ability to work independently on manufacturing projects as well as interface with other production team members. Cross-functional collaboration with Engineering, Customers, and other departments.  

Job Location: 

This role involves performing manufacturing tasks as well as leading on-site operations on the production floor and office work at Poway, CA headquarters. Role requires extensive in-person collaboration with production staff and other teammates as well as shared physical hardware tools and instruments. Occasional remote work may be possible as needed for personal reasons.

Job Conditions/Physical Demands: 

Works in Manufacturing/Lab environment with constant or intermittent noise. Walking, sitting, standing, and bending. Ability to use a keyboard. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
