The Mechanical Assembly Technician requires a high degree of problem-solving ability, ability to assemble complex and precision mechanical assemblies and complicated mechanisms to build a quality product. The machinery has critical dimensional specifications and operating relationships where fitting of components, calibration of operating units, alignment and/or balancing of completed assemblies requires the application of skilled mechanical principles and a broad knowledge of assembly techniques. The Mechanical Assembly Technician assists with final inspection and testing of machinery to ensure equipment meets performance standard and requirements.
Overview- Mechanical Assembly of complex mechanical units where a high degree of problem-solving and extreme care, skilled workmanship, and accuracy are required to meet strict inspection, testing and operating specifications
- Position, erect, align, level; position sub-assemblies, units, and separates components and integrate their operations; performs fitting, aligning, timing, calibrating, and other operations incidental to the mechanical assembly of the machine.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions and procedures
- Read and interpret engineering prints/specifications, electrical schematics, manufacturing manuals, and/or verbal/written instructions to determine necessary assembly of machine
- Utilize handheld tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, drill guns, crimpers, etc.
- Use a variety of precision measuring and gauging instruments e.g. scale, calipers, etc., to inspect and verify conformance of parts to specifications/tolerances
- Perform quality work checks to ensure the product meets quality standards
- Discern quality of parts and materials used in production.
- Identify product defects and complete appropriate documentation when defects are identified
- Rework and/or repair assembled equipment and products according to engineering specification changes
- Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve a problem and to think in such a way as to produce a new concept or idea
- High attention to detail and self-motivation skills
- Maintain process cycle time to keep pace with established standards
- Performs basic data entry to update status of job orders.
- Completes all required documentation and reports labor accurately and on a timely basis.
- Understands and complies with safety guidelines, quality system procedures and housekeeping standards.
- Able to analyze problems and offer solutions
- Comply with all other duties as needed to assist the company in attaining its objectives.
- Must be able to work well in a team environment and independently
- Cross Train co-workers as needed
- 2 – 4 years of related experience preferred.
- Experience with centerless grinding a plus.
- Highschool Diploma or equivalent required, technical school experience preferred.
- Basic reading skills. Must be able to follow directions
- Regularly lift 30-50 pounds
- Regularly perform repetitive tasks
- Regularly possess manual dexterity to put parts or pieces together quickly and accurately
- Must be willing to work on their feet for the majority of the shift
- Follow company procedures and directives.
