The Mechanical Assembly Technician requires a high degree of problem-solving ability, ability to assemble complex and precision mechanical assemblies and complicated mechanisms to build a quality product. The machinery has critical dimensional specifications and operating relationships where fitting of components, calibration of operating units, alignment and/or balancing of completed assemblies requires the application of skilled mechanical principles and a broad knowledge of assembly techniques. The Mechanical Assembly Technician assists with final inspection and testing of machinery to ensure equipment meets performance standard and requirements.

Overview
  • Mechanical Assembly of complex mechanical units where a high degree of problem-solving and extreme care, skilled workmanship, and accuracy are required to meet strict inspection, testing and operating specifications
  • Position, erect, align, level; position sub-assemblies, units, and separates components and integrate their operations; performs fitting, aligning, timing, calibrating, and other operations incidental to the mechanical assembly of the machine.
Essential duties and responsibilities
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions and procedures
  • Read and interpret engineering prints/specifications, electrical schematics, manufacturing manuals, and/or verbal/written instructions to determine necessary assembly of machine
  • Utilize handheld tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, drill guns, crimpers, etc.
  • Use a variety of precision measuring and gauging instruments e.g. scale, calipers, etc., to inspect and verify conformance of parts to specifications/tolerances
  • Perform quality work checks to ensure the product meets quality standards
  • Discern quality of parts and materials used in production.
  • Identify product defects and complete appropriate documentation when defects are identified
  • Rework and/or repair assembled equipment and products according to engineering specification changes
  • Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve a problem and to think in such a way as to produce a new concept or idea
  • High attention to detail and self-motivation skills
  • Maintain process cycle time to keep pace with established standards
  • Performs basic data entry to update status of job orders.
  • Completes all required documentation and reports labor accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Understands and complies with safety guidelines, quality system procedures and housekeeping standards.
  • Able to analyze problems and offer solutions
  • Comply with all other duties as needed to assist the company in attaining its objectives.
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment and independently
 
  • Cross Train co-workers as needed
Requirements
  • 2 – 4 years of related experience preferred.
  • Experience with centerless grinding a plus.
  • Highschool Diploma or equivalent required, technical school experience preferred.
Physical demands and abilities
  • Basic reading skills. Must be able to follow directions
  • Regularly lift 30-50 pounds
  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks
  • Regularly possess manual dexterity to put parts or pieces together quickly and accurately
  • Must be willing to work on their feet for the majority of the shift
  • Follow company procedures and directives.
