This position is responsible for the research, design/development, and project management of custom and sustaining machine projects. The Mechanical Design Engineer aids in the design of new features for existing products and the development of new machine products to fulfill the needs of the customers as well as provide functionality and technical support. This position often acts as a technical liaison for the sales department, operations, and customers. This position is responsible for the design documentation of assembly drawings, as well as part detail drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5 and GD&T standards in the SolidWorks CAD program.
JOB DUTIES
Essential Job Functions:- Develop new designs and the documentation of assembly drawings, as well as part detail drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5 and GD&T standards in the SolidWorks CAD program.
- Coordinate and consult with the Sales Department regarding the design intent, layout, or details of a project to meet design objectives and delivery schedules.
- Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs.
- Modify or revise existing designs to correct deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
- Perform tolerance analysis and dimensional checks for designs.
- Prepare and conduct design review meetings for required review stages (concept and final).
- Execute engineering change requests, as needed using the SolidWorks PDM program.
- Coordinate with Data Entry and Production Planning to enter component information and bills of material into databases.
- Consult with the Mechanical Engineering Team and Sales Team, to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products for development.
- Assist with the manufacturing, assembly/construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements.

This position primarily involves sitting and walking in carrying out the job duties; occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. may be necessary from time to time.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is carried out indoors in an office environment or on the manufacturing floor, when performing tasks related to production, such as process documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS
· EDUCATION REQUIRED – Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (BSME). Must have mechanical qualifications at a technician level.
· EXPERIENCE –3-5 years of machine design or related design experience. Previous experience within the automated material handling industry is preferred.
· SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, OR ABILITIES – SolidWorks CAD experience required. Must possess a high degree of organizational and documentation skills.
· CONTACT WITH OTHERS – daily, moderate, contact with co-workers. Occasional contact with outside clients and officials. Daily interaction with Engineering Manager.
