Western Technologies Inc., established in 1955, has an excellent opportunity in our Salt Lake City, UT office for a Senior Environmental Scientist. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science degree, 10 plus years environmental consulting experience, current environmental certifications and a desire to be an entrepreneur.
General Responsibilities:
Consult with principals, technical experts, and other supervisors on routine and moderately complex environmental assessment and remediation projects. Apply training, experience and proficiency in the application of technical practices and regulatory requirements in carrying out daily work assignments. 
Duties include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Prepare proposals and cost estimates, evaluate data, prepare draft figures, data tables and reports, track project budgets, and prepares draft invoices.
  • Perform site reconnaissance, field observations, field data collection and documentation or other field assignments.
  • Work around drill rigs, excavators or other heavy equipment in field during investigations and installation of groundwater and soil vapor monitoring wells
  • Conduct hazardous materials inspections, indoor air quality assessments, and lead-based paint inspections.
  • Direct the work of technicians, field crew, or drilling crew as necessary.
  • Monitor, oversee, and perform verification testing for the implementation of abatement work by independent contractors or subcontractors.
  • Participate in training programs for career development and increased proficiency in safety, project management, field methods and standard practices.
  • Manage existing client relationships and participate in sales and marketing efforts to expand clientele.
Skills and Requirements – minimum qualifications for the position include:
  • Candidate should have an understanding and knowledge of the Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessment Process.
  • Candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, positive attitude, good organizational skills, and a strong work ethic.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in applicable environmental science field.
  • Three or more of the following Environmental/OSHA Certifications: AHERA Inspector, AHERA Management Planner, AHERA Contractor Supervisor, EPA Lead-Based Paint Inspector or Risk Assessor, and OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Willingness to learn and accept new challenges.
  • Be able to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Have a clean motor vehicle record and be able to pass pre-employment drug test.
  • Occasional overnight travel is required with this position.
