Fabrication Shift Lead-1st Shift - 7:00am to 3:30pm

POSITION SUMMARY:

 
The core mission of the Fabrication Shift Lead is to efficiently and accurately direct the fabrication of metal assemblies in the construction of custom prefabricated structures and custom components in a factory environment. The Fabrication Shift Lead is responsible for the oversight of the fabrication section of the factory including production, crew direction, quality assurance, work planning and safety.

•  Develop, train, provide effective supervision and motivate fabrication personnel.
•  Assists interpreting specifications, blueprints, and job orders to employees and assigns duties.
 Manage and direct staff and work with the department Manager/Foreman to address employee issues as they arise.
•  Coordinates and confirms that team members understand and are in compliance with the current company policies and procedures.
•  Monitor project timelines and expenditures on a per project basis to meet deadlines.
•  Manage disciplinary and progressive disciplinary actions. 
•  Coordinate and stage all material planned for production in advance.
•  Train crew members to use SCD’s ERP system. The current system at this time is “Print I.Q.”.
•  Have a clear understanding of production work flow’s interrelationship that the fabrication department has with other departments.
•  Responsible for metal shop organization and housekeeping.
•  Collaborates with cross-functional departments.
•  Check that all information regarding Work Orders/Auto Cad renderings are correct. Making sure that employees perform duties perfectly and check that all information is correct regarding Work Orders/fabricated merchandise before giving the job to the next stage of Production.

•  Understand the basics of Industrial Safety, Health and Environmental. Avoid injuries and must ask for help from other suitable employees when lifting heavy objects over 50 lbs. and/or large dimensions with a 47” or more length, using proper lifting techniques and proper lifting equipment.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  Management and oversight of the fabrication team
 •  Delegating production assignments to appropriate teams and personnel
 •  Coordinating daily activities of production and operation teams
 •  Ensuring and applying safety measurements
 
POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This position might require long hours and occasional weekend work to follow up with specific projects assigned, due to a wide variety of fabrication jobs that require short lead times and quick turnarounds.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

Minimum 5 years in management in a manufacturing environment with knowledge of blueprints, lean principles, and familiar with welding and fabrication processes.
Strong experience and knowledge of fabrication machinery and tooling.
• Minimum 5 years knowledge of how to use fabrication shop machinery, fabrication shop hand tools and an extensive background in welding knowledge, MIG, TIG and SMAW.
              At least 3 years of experience in personnel management.
Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written.
Able to work in an environment with some chemical odors, temperature variations, noise, dust and dirt.
Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift 50 pounds. Applying safety rules and techniques.
Ability to understand and apply safety practices regarding all machinery and tool usage.
Available to occasionally work beyond ‘standard hours’ and/or off-peak hours during heavy workload periods to ensure customers’ expectations are met.
 
Pay Range
$25.00   Hourly to $28.00   Hourly
