The Knowledge House’s mission is to empower and sustain a talent pipeline of technologists, entrepreneurs, and digital leaders, who will uplift their communities out of poverty.
 
The Knowledge House (TKH) approach is to (1) close gaps in the education­-to-­employment pipeline in underserved Bronx neighborhoods by teaching young adults aged 16­-24 skills to launch careers or ventures in technology, and (2) support links between local youth, tech innovation, and business development that bring positive community impact. Headquartered in the South Bronx, the poorest congressional district, TKH has served more than 1,900 students. Current core programs include our Innovation Fellowship focused on software engineering, cyber security, and digital design for adult job trainees, and our Karim Kharbouch Coding Fellowship for high school students learning computational thinking and web design.

Job Summary
The TKH Director of Operations will oversee all financial, people, compliance, and facilities operations at The Knowledge House. This position will work closely with the Fiscal Manager, Sr. Manager of People Operations, and outside operations vendors on a day to day basis while also working with the Chief of Staff and Board Treasurer on financial reporting, strategic planning, and compliance. They will be primarily responsible for the following activities. These include, but are not limited to:
Model Exemplary Execution of Organizational Finance, HR, Compliance
  • Lead financial reporting, forecasting, and budgeting process to ensure TKH’s sustainability, including all aspects of accounts receivable, accounts payable and purchasing functions
  • Oversee all bill payments, payroll submissions and adjustments, reconciling discrepancies about payments betweenTKH and  outside vendors, staff, and students
  • Establishes and maintains control systems that ensure transactions are properly recorded and accounted for to permit the preparation of reliable financial statements and demonstrate compliance with all insurance policies, employment & tax laws
  • Oversee submission of grants budgets and spend-down, including appropriate allocation of personnel salaries on grants, and creates systems for tracking time and effort for all personnel matched to grants
  • Oversees the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Monitors and ensures the organization's compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
 
Develop and Supervise a High-performing Team
  • Set a vision for the operations team and help to recruit, train, and motivate through effective onboarding, internal learning, and capacity building for the team
  • Provide strategic direction to the operations team towards org-wide and department outcomes and professional development goals
  • Supervise the Fiscal Manager responsible for processing agency purchases, ensuring that all requests and expenditures are reviewed and processed in a timely manner and in accordance with applicable rules
  • Supervise the Sr. Manager of People Operations and oversee execution of recruiting, hiring, onboarding, performance management, professional development, and offboarding procedures
  • Navigates complex people management issues and operations team decisions
  • Provides oversight of TKH facilities, inventory, and asset management

Lead Strategy Design & Implementation
  • Designs the overall operational strategy in partnership with C-Suite management and identify opportunities for improvement periodically
  • Lead TKH’s annual audit, liaising with board treasurer and coordinate and complete all regulatory filings, annual reporting, business registrations, and other compliance related processes
  • Coordinate Risk Assessment and Internal Control activity within the Finance Team and TKH Board
  • Develops and oversees the routine updating of the TKH Employee Handbook, the TKH Financial Management Policies, and the TKH Compliance Handbook.
  • Creates project plans, sets deadlines, oversees progress towards achievement of milestones, and reviews progress of projects and initiates appropriate actions to achieve targeted objectives
  • Remains up-to-date on changes to policies, both internal and external, that pertain to compliance, budgeting, a positive organizational culture and employee experience, and other operational matters.
 
Qualifications:
You’re an ideal candidate if you have:
  • 8+ years of financial and/or operations management experience preferably in a non profit setting
  • 5+ years of experience managing and developing team members
  • 3+ years of experience in managing projects of advanced complexity across multiple teams
  • Ability to operate effectively with low degree of direct oversight
  • Fluent in Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks
  • Fluent in GAAP
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent time management & critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Organized, analytical, and detail-oriented
The salary range  for this role is $95,000-$115,000. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, a 2% 401k match, a monthly tech stipend, and unlimited days of paid time off.
