Job Summary

The Subsea Design Engineer is responsible for the research and design of the company’s new products and systems, as well as modifications to existing products, to suit customer and project requirements. The Design Engineer performs various tasks in the engineering department including design, numerical and finite element analysis, producing analytical reports and test procedures, and overseeing the manufacturing and testing process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Analyzes proposed product specifications to determine feasibility of product proposal.
  • Confers with other engineers, departments within the company, and/or the customer to clarify or resolve problems and develop the design.
  • Determines method and applies sound engineering principles to solve issues in a clear and efficient manner.
  • Prepares or directs preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics utilizing computer aided design (CAD) software.
  • Utilizes computer-assisted engineering (CAE) software for detailed analysis of design, such as loading and lifting, pressure containment, cathodic protection, etc.
  • Directs and coordinates manufacturing or building of products or systems as required.
  • Plans and develops experimental test programs as required.
  • Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Accepts feedback from coworkers and clients and applies design modifications as required.
  • Evaluates engineering test results for possible application to development of systems or other uses.
  • Reviews and dispositions Non-Conformances (NCR) promptly.
  • Provides periodic progress updates to management for longer duration projects.
  • Assists in developing procedures and standards, as well as training other personnel.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with “hands-on” experience and approach to engineering.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for creative problem solving and innovation.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed by the business.
Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET and 3-5 years of experience in steel fabrication and/or machining. At least 7 years’ experience in subsea distribution systems required. Working knowledge of material mechanical properties and chemistry. Basic knowledge of electrical principles; continuity(resistance), voltage, amperage a plus. Familiarization with converting fabrication models for use within FEA, setting up boundary and load parameters, and solving FEA is required. Experience using SolidWorks is required. Knowledge of offshore rigging and lifting appliances as well as DNV specifications a plus.
