Job Summary

The Pediatric Dentist works collaboratively with team members to ensure every patient receives a full comprehensive evaluation.  Utilizes data collected such as patient concerns, health history and prior dental experiences, existing restorations, perio-charting, caries risk assessments, X-Rays, and intra-oral photographs as a minimum to chart a course of treatment. May collaborate with hygienists to ensure continuing care is scheduled and performed.  Recommends and provides treatment for cracked, damaged or unstable teeth and restores function.  Extracts teeth and partners with dental specialists as required to allow for future restorations and restored oral health.  Maintains a long-term view of the patient’s progress and shares responsibility with the team for patient satisfaction and a high degree of customer service. 

Responsibilities 
  • Perform complete, detailed, and accurate health histories, review patient records, develop comprehensive oral health assessments, and complete radiological and diagnostic studies including blood pressure, perio-charting, caries risk assessments, updated X-rays, and intraoral photographs. 
  • Prioritizes a comprehensive approach to oral health while addressing chief concerns
  • Presents findings to patients, parents, and guardians and builds long-term care relationships built upon mutual understanding and trust.
  • Addresses gum disease and tooth decay with timely treatments to arrest further development and stabilize health
  • Performs a wide range of procedures including fillings and crowns, pulpotomies, cleanings, fluoride application, sealants, and mitigates pain and infections.
  • Partners with hygienists to formulate corrective plans and recommend therapies such as periodic cleanings with the goal of preventing or arresting disease and/or cavities.  Refers case of higher severity to periodontist and provides follow-up care
  • Monitors growth and development of teeth and jaws
  • Refers complex exodontia such as extractions requiring sedation to oral surgery
  • Refers to orthodontist patients that could benefit from alignment.
  • Administers local anesthesia and nitrous oxide for the comfort of patients
  • Provide instructions and guidance regarding health care and health care promotion to patients/family/significant others
  • Represent our group by providing outreach and education with local businesses, schools and other organizations.

Qualifications
  • Excellent communicator with staff, patients, and family
  • Professional appearance and attitude with high ethical standard
  • Active VA Dental license in good standing
  • DEA license
  • AED, CPR Qualified
  • Able to multi-task and work independently and as a team
