PrePress Operator-2nd Shift 2:30PM to 11:00PM
 

POSITION SUMMARY:  

Prepare (pre-press) customer art files for print and production, while ensuring all requirements meet production standards. This is a technical position, not a design position. 

REPORTS TO;  

Digital Department Manager 

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:  

 

  • Read and interpret work orders to ensure files are set up per specifications 

  • Pre-press files for various print output following proper standards for print production, including bleed, trapping, color separation, resolution. 

  • Send accurate proofs  

  • Deliver job to next step of process upon completion 

  • Ensure consistency of database information, file structure and archiving 

  • Communicate project status and log time 

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

  • 2+ years in related field 

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Adobe Creative Suite 

JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Can perform all duties as listed for Basic as well as the following: 

  • MUST HAVE: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign  

  • Experience in a Macintosh OS environment 

  • Understanding of how to: 

  • Navigate computer servers 

  • Download and open files 

  • Accurately prep files for correct layout with proper resolution and format 

  • RIP files to print 

  • Hand over projects to next stage of production 

  • Ability to follow directions and procedures 

  • Extreme attention to detail 

  • Ability to complete production quickly with high quality assurance, and minimal to no errors 

  • Possess strong organization skills, including file management, structure, and naming 

  • Excellent math, spelling, proofreading and grammar skills 

  • Adaptability and poise under pressure of extremely tight deadlines 

  • Provide clear communication, regular status updates, and professionalism 

  • Follow-through and accountability 

  • Prioritizes own work flow and demonstrates effective planning 

  • Understanding of Color theory and ability to see inaccuracies in color on a file 

  • Color Correction 

  • Accurate measurement of physical samples for dieline creation 

  • Modify artwork to fit various size configurations 

  • Accurate entry of all specifications and art into Filemaker software 

  • Creating separations for silkscreen/color separation/special effects from intricate multi-layer files 

  • Understanding of various material specs as they relate to print output 

  • Creating accurate die lines for cutting 

  • Retouching/adding bleed as required  

  • Aiding in creation of mock-up concepts 

  • Inspect files and product for non-conformances during process 

  • Any other tasks as assigned, but not limited to the above 

 

 

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:  

 

  • Associate or BA degree in related field, Graphic Preflight preferred  

  • Or 2 years equivalent production art and printing experience/training 

 

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 

  • Produce orders and proofs to job specifications/requirements. 

  • Ability to re-create mechanical drawings/templates 

  • Full understanding of print processes and computer/graphics terminology 

  • Work independently with little supervision 

  • Attend and report at meetings as required 

  • Provide guidance and assistance to other staff 

 

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  

 

Ability to work on a computer screen for long periods, without straining. Excellent eye-sight with ability to differentiate colors. Ability to pass through large facility many times per day. Manufacturing environment: may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, dust or dirt. Ability to work amidst noise. Must be able to work extended hours with little advance notice to meet project deadlines. 

 

Pay Range
$17.00   Hourly to $24.00   Hourly
