A Dedicated Aide at Kingsman Academy will be expected to take a large hand in helping students with challenges achieve their educational goals. Dedicated Aides are responsible for collaborating with teachers, special education case managers, and related service providers to provide tiered behavioral and academic support to students. Dedicated Aides also monitor students throughout the school building, on school grounds, and on field trips to ensure that students are actively engaged in learning opportunities.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

As an dedicated aide with Kingsman, you will:

  • Collaborate with teachers and special education/clinical staff to ensure that students receive appropriate behavioral support and high-quality, engaging instruction.

  • Work with assigned teachers and related service providers to provide in-class and wrap-around support for assigned classrooms and students.

  • Create and foster a positive learning environment and exhibit positive rapport with students.

  • Hold high expectations for each student while implementing school-wide behavior policies within classrooms and throughout the school.

  • Constantly track and assess student progress, and communicate results to teachers and colleagues.

  • Provide individual or small group instruction, with specific interventions and supports for students who need additional assistance.

  • Participate in ongoing, job-embedded professional development to implement research-based, best-practice interventions and supports designed to improve behavior and foster a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.

  • Conduct home visits as necessary to support student learning.

  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and other related service providers to provide targeted one-on-one behavior support to students in accordance with Behavior Intervention Plans and other tiered behavior supports.

  • Supervise students throughout the school day.

  • Build relationships with students to create a positive school culture.

  • Monitor students in the building and on school grounds throughout the school day, including during arrival and dismissal and during class changes.

  • Escort specific students to needed areas, including offices and classes.

  • Cover in classrooms in the event that a substitute teacher is not available.

  • Perform morning, afternoon, and lunch duties as needed.

  • Serve as a chaperone on field trips.

  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications and Behavioral Competencies

A successful candidate will possess the following qualifications, skills, and qualities:

  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree strongly desired.

  • Experience with therapeutic aggression control techniques and crisis intervention strategies.

  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification strongly recommended.

  • At least one (1) year of experience providing support services to children with serious behavioral and emotional needs.

  • Experience working with incarcerated or at-risk youth.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Quick learner, adaptable, committed to acting in the best interest of students.

  • Be capable of physically assisting students with special needs as required (positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, etc.).

  • Ability to work as part of a team.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may experience regular interruptions and inflexible deadlines. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Duties are performed primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors. Local travel may be required for training or to carry out duties and responsibilities.
