Purpose: 
The Chemotherapy Scheduler position handles complex duties requiring judgment and discretion when scheduling and coordinating chemotherapy treatments. This position effectively communicates and coordinates with appropriate departments in order to ensure patient treatment needs are met.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
 
  • Schedules all cycles of infusions and related injections in OncoEMR once authorizations are received.    
  • Coordinates infusions with M.D. /N.P. visits.                                                       
  • Ensures all pertinent paperwork regarding chemotherapy scheduling is completed daily.
  • Reviews each patient on the schedule every day to ensure treatment and follow-up appointments are scheduled, ensuring patient needs are met.
  • Facilitates effective communication and coordination with patient caregiver, healthcare professionals both internal and external, and alternative patient settings as necessary when scheduling needs to be adjusted to accommodate patient/physician need.
  • Ensures patients are contacted prior to appointments to inform them of treatment schedule changes, as needed and when appropriate.
  • Properly coordinates appointments with front desk reception, when patient requires physician follow-up and/or RN treatment appointment.
  • Ensures patient education, for both oral and IV chemotherapy, is completed and documented with patients and families.
  • Provides effective clerical support to other departments as requested.    
  • Effectively completes other duties and projects as assigned.      

Experience, Qualifications/Education:
 
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Approximately five years clerical experience and knowledge of all aspects of clerical duties in the healthcare setting
  • Experience with orientation and training
  • Strong customer service background, preferably in healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of computer/telephony support, preferably in a health care environment
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Competence with computer processing functions and other standard office equipment
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to calmly and professionally resolve customer issues with diplomacy and tact
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational skills

Working Conditions:
 
  • This position functions primarily indoors in a medical / business environment. Employee may be subject to blood borne pathogens, radiation, bio waste and other medically-related factors, with exposure to moderate noise levels.
  • Visual acuity to read and compute screen and paper documents; close and distance vision, peripheral vision depth perception, ability to adjust focus; hearing acuity to converse with staff and customers; ability to walk, stoop, bend, kneel, and lift and move 25 pounds on a regular basis; ability to sit for hours at a time. Employee will be exposed to moderate noise levels, interruptions, and occasionally asked to work evening and weekends as needed.
