Position Summary:

We are recruiting for a Director of Network Engineering for our client, a premier fiber optic telecommunications service provider. The Director of Network Engineering is responsible for leading the Network Engineering and Central Office teams. This includes technology efforts involved with proactively maintaining a reliable and secure network infrastructure, ongoing expansion, and capacity management of those networks. The role also participates in developing products through a product development process that best leverages our overall capabilities.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the Departments including Network Engineering & Central Office, including infrastructure, budgeting, and developing business cases for capital projects and new/existing product development
  • Proactively manages network backbone infrastructure including implementation of upgrades
  • Proactively manages the network core and distribution environment. Ensures the highest level of performance, reliability, and security consistent with corporate objectives. Research technology and best practices. Engage with other departments that interface technology with the core to ensure maximum interoperability
  • Identifies and prioritizes team members projects through EOS that provide the best mid to long term benefits to the company and customers
  • Acts as the lead role for all security related initiatives, utilizing internal and external resources to identify maintain and develop security controls that maintain regulatory and industry standard compliance to protect all assets and sensitive information.
  • Ensure that network engineering and CO departments maintain appropriate SOPs and documented processes. Work with other department managers to ensure that all SOPs work well between departments.
  • Manages the strategic growth of Network Engineering and which includes but is not limited to developing and measuring forward looking metrics that indicate progress relative to strategic objectives via the network and monitoring systems
  • Plays an active role in creating horizontal alignment between the technology teams and other Departments
  • Ability to empower front line team members to ensure their input is heard and considered in strategy development and execution
  • Understands current and future training needs and recommends plans and resources to meet those needs
  • Leads and provides technical support on escalated network issues
  • Provides creative and strategic troubleshooting to resolve issues

 

Requirements:

  • Associate degree preferred with 10+ years of telecommunication’s experience
  • Previous Management experience required
  • Experience in telephony systems core routing, switching and access technologies
  • Experience working in a type-2 provider network
  • Strong knowledge in the OSI model
  • A valid driver's license or ability to access transportation to attend work group and organization meetings is necessary.
