Job Description
The candidate is responsible for using mathematical modeling and computer aided engineering (CAE) software to analyze the pressure drop and heat transfer performance of automotive heat exchangers (HEX) and the internal airflow and temperature characteristics of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) modules.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Through the use of CFD tools and advanced methods, provide design guidance to product development (PD) engineering to help optimize HEX and HVAC component performance to achieve customer targets.
  • Work with PD engineering, CFD software vendors, universities, etc., to develop and correlate advanced CFD models and processes to assess the pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics of automotive heat exchangers, HVAC modules, coolant pumps, and/or fluid transport lines/hoses.
  • Leverage CFD analyses to find, fix and understand the root cause of performance issues, discovered during product development and field testing, and suggest workable solutions.
  • Support our efforts in obtaining new business through accurate and detailed CFD simulations, customer presentations and technology design reviews while protecting our competitive edge.
  • Coordinate CFD activities with our global CAE teams.
  • Work with technical experts to develop, deploy and document new CFD processes and analytical techniques for HEX and HVAC components.
  • Look for opportunities to improve CFD processes as new hardware technology and enhanced software tools become available.
  • Cascade process improvements and coordinate some training of new methods to the company CFD community.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work as a cross-functional team member.

Degree Preferred and Experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of automotive HEX and HVAC CFD experience is required for a Master of Science candidate.
  • Ph.D. candidates must show evidence of a CFD, fluid dynamics and/or heat transfer related dissertation and significant course work.


Desired Competencies, Experience, & Qualifications
  • Familiarity with the operation and function of typical automotive HEX components and HVAC modules.
  • Possesses aspects of a future technical leader and mentor in the field of CFD.
  • Experience and technical knowledge in the utilization of a general CFD solver such as ANSYS Fluent or Altair Acusolve is required.
  • Flexibility and a willingness to learn and employ new tools is required.
  • Experience with Catia V5, Creo and/or UGNX CAD tools and programming languages (i.e. C or FORTRAN).
  • Experience in utilizing high performance computing systems and the Linux operating system for advanced CAE simulations.

Special Requirements (i.e.: Overtime, Travel, etc.,)
  • Some overtime may be necessary to meet a customer deadline and/or achieve customer targets.
  • Some domestic and international travel is possible to other company technical centers, conference, training classes or customer meetings.
