ABOUT THE POSITION:


Key Deliverables
  • To be successful in t Designing Astec Industries plants, products, and systems.
  • Developing engineering calculations.
  • Providing layout drawings and sketches to Engineering Department drafters for completion of detail drawings and check detail drawings provided by drafters to oversee revisions as required.
  • Responding to draftsmen’s questions and will assist in solving related problems. Working from existing designs, responsible for design adaptations and alterations to meet customer requirements.
  • Recommend and implement design changes to equipment so as to reduce manufacturing costs and improve product performance.
  • Inspect equipment prior to shipping to verify proper construction.
  • Work with fabrication shop personnel and foremen as required to train and educate them on proper construction techniques.
  • Work with end users of equipment to resolve complaints and recommend and oversee field repairs as necessary.
  • Provide recommendations to salespeople and end users of equipment on modifying existing equipment so as to make possible the upgrading of existing equipment.
  • Travel to plant installations and measure existing equipment and make layout drawings and sketches of proposed modifications to equipment.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Undergraduate, 4-year Civil Engineering Degree required, with an emphasis on Structural Design preferred.
  • Written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Training and/or experience in using AutoCAD or similar CAD software is required.
  • Computer skills utilizing finite elements analysis and structural analysis software is preferred.
  • Must be able to work satisfactorily as a team member.
  • Must be able to meet regular attendance requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Office
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of injury in an office environment and occasionally a manufacturing shop plant environment.  Duties include a typical office setting including extensive computer work, sitting or standing. Manufacturing Environment
Shop manufacturing environment exposures include exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools and equipment, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, motorized vehicles, welding and machining operations, outside weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electric shock.  The employee may occasionally be exposed to varying levels of dirt, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, very warm and/or very chilly temperatures.  The noise level in the shop can be very loud at times consistent with an industrial assembly facility and may require hearing protection.
