THE BOB RAY SANDERS REPORTING INTERN SUMMER 2024

KERA News and the Fort Worth Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists are looking for an intern to work with the station’s award-winning newsroom in Fort Worth.

This internship is named after Bob Ray Sanders, an award-winning reporter, editor and columnist during two stints at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He also earned accolades for his work at KERA’s radio and television stations, being described as someone who negotiated “the precarious tightrope that stretches between print and broadcast news.”

This is an FLSA classified non-exempt position and will report to the Collaborations Editor.

KERA, the public broadcasting organization for Dallas/Fort Worth, reaches more than 2 million people weekly through KERA TVKERA NewsKXT, WRR, KERA Arts and the Denton Record Chronicle. WHAT YOU’LL DO
  
  • Report alongside reporters from both, KERA and The Fort Worth Report
  • Generate web and radio content
  • Produce daily turnaround stories that will be featured through different mediums
  • Attend weekly news meetings to brainstorm with staff members
     

WHO YOU ARE
Interns must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student or an undergrad with at least the freshman year completed. You should have knowledge of public radio, strong editing and writing skills and a firm grasp of AP style. Audio-editing experience, previous employment at a daily news organization and knowledge of social media are preferred.

 
SALARY

$16 per hour paid on a bi-weekly pay period. Interns can expect to work 35-40 hours per week.




LOCATION AND SCHEDULE:

The internship is based in Dallas/Fort Worth, but interns can work a hybrid schedule. Interns should have some availability between 9am. and 5pm (M-F). Hours are flexible, and we will work with you to accommodate class schedules.

The internship will begin around May 20, 2024, and end August 9, 2024. There may be opportunities to extend the internship into the Fall 2024 term.
