Description
OMS Field Services is looking for a Senior Safety Specialist to work in our clients Vegetation Management program. Senior Safety Specialist will administer Vegetation Management field/yard assessments. Field/yard assessments will focus on specifics area of skill/knowledge including, but not limited to any task(s) performed within Vegetation management. May involve working in extreme weather, day or night conditions, and hiking to observe chainsaw use, tree felling, climbing, and cutting aloft, climbing and bucking, and use of aerial lift, etc. Business conduct must occur in accordance with OMS policies and procedures and be aligned with the goals of OMS.

Essential Functions:
  • Performs initial and subsequent safety observations, written or computer- based documentation, and field observations of VM activities including new and/or difficult skills and techniques, with general guidance on new assignments.
  • Prepares employees/contractors for the entire observation process, written and/or computer documentation of field observation, through effective communication and tail boarding. Ensures employees understand the purpose and process.
  • Documents and communicates results to first line supervision/leadership, using standardized templates and forms.
  • Shares outcomes, observations, trends, gaps and issues with direct supervisor, the employee’s supervisor and/or manager that contribute to the development and implementation of mitigating strategies as needed.
  • Addresses gaps and issues identified to improve observations, coaching tools, process, and/or materials.
  • Ensures the observation processes are followed, and observation records are maintained in compliance with CM program requirements.
  • Contributes to the enhancement of new standards/processes.
  • Collaborates with stakeholder groups to ensure appropriate process/asset recommendations are being implemented and maintained.
  • Coaches less experienced team members.
  • Other duties as assigned by OMS or the client.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Any technical or continued education in related field. (Forestry, Utility Vegetation Management and/or Logging)
  • CPR/First Aid
  • OSHA 30 Hour Certification
  • Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP) or Consulting Utility Forester Safety Professional (CUFSP).
  • Electric Hazard Awareness Program (EHAP)
  • Five (5) years of experience in the arboriculture industry or military experience and (1) year in the arboriculture industry
  • One (1) year in trainer or safety position
  • Utility line clearance
  • Training experience within the arboriculture/utility line clearance industry.
  • Thorough understanding of specific work methods and procedures, including all safety practices.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to effectively coach and provide feedback.
  • Leadership and collaboration skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SAP skills.
  •  Knowledge of OSHA Logging Regulations, ANSI Z133 Standards and PG&E Safe Work Practices
  • Required to maintain a Class C driver’s license, including participating in Employer Pull Notice Program (EPN), with DMV.
  • Conduct background check, clear drug test, and physical exam.

Preferred:
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish)
  • OSHA 30 (with focus in Elec Power)
  • International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Credentials
Working Conditions: 
Environmental Factors:  Indoor and outdoor conditions; exposure to heat, cold, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials; work on/walk on slippery or uneven and potentially mountainous terrain.  Noise level is usually moderate.
