Based at our global Headquarters in Piscataway, New Jersey, this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Laboratory Specialist or Technician with a passion for bench-work to join our team and participate in client projects which will ultimately impact human health.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Supervisor of the Cellular Services Lab, the Senior Lab Specialist will perform multiple processes including PBMC isolation and cryopreservation, other assays, and tests; propagates non-animal specimens and cell cultures; prepares biomaterials including stool for testing.
Also required to assist with the immortalization of human lymphocyte cell lines and cryopreservation of these cell lines for long term storage.
Working hours Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform routine laboratory procedures as required to meet daily lab operation expectations, including whole blood and cell cultures for establishment of transformed lymphocyte cell lines and DNA extractions for genetic studies.
• Maintain accurate records in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to ensure sample identify data and sample processing data.
• Perform quality control and assurance checks as samples are processed, resolve sample discrepancy problems in coordination with laboratory staff, directors and cell services staff.
• Provide professional level laboratory technical support involving the application of scientific research methods and techniques, as directed by the Laboratory management team.
• Follow quality control policies and procedures on all aspects of laboratory operations.
• Take personal responsibility to deliver client services to a consistently high standard.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Requires a Bachelors or Masters degree in a Life Sciences field (Biology, Molecular Biology or Biochemistry).
• Minimum 2 years’ post-qualification experience in all aspects of blood processing and cell culture, including PBMC isolation, viability testing, LCL conversion, passaging and cryopreservation.
• Must be able to read and understand technical documents, and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Experienced in Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Documentation Practice (GDP). Experienced in working with a quality driven system.
• Must have strong organization skills, with the ability to conduct and organize activities in a commercial laboratory efficiently and expeditiously while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Able to manage multiple tasks.
• Experienced using laboratory information systems.
• Able to operate scientific instruments, with good manual dexterity.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong mathematics and analytical skills.
• Team player with good interpersonal skills
• This position will require occasional, sometimes significant, work on weekend and holidays due to the inherent demands of cell processing and culture.
